Appreciate the input .. the sw was replaced under warranty at 60,000 but I took it out to check anyway .. was pretty well worn & very dirty so I cleaned & relubed it ....if I have no furthur incidents I will replace it but not convinced its that just yet...will post as the plot thickens

Shocker
no, car ran fine, just died. Have had no problem since I pulled & cleaned the ign sw (easy to do & mine was a real mess, pitted & dirty!)but thats no indication (yet) that the sw is the prob. The prob is intermittent so will wait a month or so b4 I say thats what it was. I have monitors on the Fuel pump relay and Ign feed wire so can tell which is the prob if it happns again. will post any news.

Doubtfull as that usually has characteristics (rough running etc) that are different ... also would not be intermittent, the engine would just choke down and or stop permanently. mine starts back up immediately after going dead .... we will see, thanks for the interest

I was actually going to get on here and post the same issue. My '99 with 140k miles just recently did this 4 times in the matter of 2 months. All my warning-lights turn on..then off, and the car instantly dies even while driving. I have taken the car into Superior Acura and they have not been able to diagnose the issue. I'm curious to see if the ignition switch could be causing this.

My experiences with dealers and electrical problems would involve language not suitable for this site ...... Your Ign sw can cause exactly this problem .. in fact, Acura had a recall for that some years ago, mine was changed at 60,000. Intrestingly enough just about 60,000 has lapsed since that time. the question is not can it but is it! .... the switch is over 100$ so I need a little more proof b4 I buy a new one. If you look up Acuras ignition sw recall info they state that the car can stall in traffic exactly as you state.

Best of luck on your search for the problem.
main relay can cause this or most likly its the electrical portion of the ignition switch.
the recall was for the key getting stuck. as your in the car , unlock the steering colume and move it up and down fast, like your going to break it . if nothing happens then that cancals out the ing. portion.

i replaced my ignition switch at 44,000 aug 02 and in may 08 at 87,000 first time dealer did it the second its easy i used to be driving and it would quit and if i tapped the key forward it would get power and fire right up weird
We just replaced the switch on my wifes 99 for the second time, if you fiddle with the key when the engine was running, poof, it would die...... Car would just die while driving also, not acceptable, works fine now...It looks like they are good for 60K or so...
As mentioned above, the replacement ignition switches can and do fail.
My 1999 TL is on its third ignition switch. The first one was replaced under the recall and then that one failed.
Forum member 6MTUA5 recently posted an excellent DIY for replacing the ignition switch:

Personally, I would just buy new one instead of cleaning it out. Between the hassle of replacing it and the potential for getting stranded somewhere, or having the car die at a bad time while you're driving, the $50 cost for the part is pretty reasonable.
