Engine Oil leaking....
Engine Oil leaking....
Just picked up a 2002 TL-S (Second TL, have an 03 TL-S at home) for a pretty good price, 12K with 120K. anyway. Noticed there's oil leaking from where the tranny meets the engine. it's not leaking very majorly but maybe a drop or two the size of a nickle on the pavement overnight.
Took a look at it and a mechanic opened up the little pan thing that exposes the engine from underneath the car and there's nothing inside...seems like the oil is leaking from the tranny. I noticed sometimes when the car is on second gear, the car seems to be shutttering very minimally and only when it's in second gear and it goes away in third, won't notice it at all unless you pay really close attention to it, and sometimes it's just not there at all.
I'm wondering if this is a sign of a dying transmission or just as simple as a borken seal somewhere. The oil is a brownish in colour and i had just done an oil change, so it's not transmission oil. and no there's no oil coming from the oil filter or the drain plug.
Don't wanna have honda or acura to diagnose at the moment as they charge 115 an hour to check :S
Help me out azine!!

Does your TL have a salvage title? If not, the transmission should be covered under the 7 year 9 month / 109,000 mile extended warranty. And maybe Acura will check out the transmission for no cost if it's covered.
Good luck!

yea...not sure if this extends to Canada..i looked into that yesterday but it seems like the trans was replaced in 2005 and now they said i'm not covered anymore once the recall is fixed. and that's coming from an acura dealer's service department here in Vancouver BC. I even called acura canada to confirm and see if the vehicle is eligible for recall and they said no. weird how it's not covered under the recall yet a replacement was done in 2005....
I get different answers from different departments...i dunno.....
and no the car has a clear title

the recall and the extended warranty by US court case are different things
Canuks gets bent over after 50,000 miles
This would be a good time to take the cash you saved on purchase of this Great Deal! car, and spend it at the trans repair shop~ $2500-2800
If something seems a bit cheap for what you can see,,,,,
You are also looking at the 105k miles service pretty soon- $1200

From what I hear: canuk cars with the 50k mile warranty that get a replacement trans- possibly goodwill replaced after miles limit,,,- thats all the freebie trans you get - sorry!
But if it was done in 05, it probably has the new improved case design, so getting it rebuilt locally will be fine.

From where its leaking its probably the rear main seal on the motor. That requires the trans be removed to fix a 8 dollar part. Find a import repair shop or a shop you trust to have do the repairs.
