Am I being ripped off?

Engine is idling funny, it drops occasionally whenever I come to a stop and occasionally cuts off completely. Check Engine light finally came on last night so I decided to take it to the dealership for diagnostic. They tell me I need a "New Throttle Body Assembly." I say "WTF." So I ask what could be causing the problem and the service advisor tells me that it could be the IAC and that they want to replace the assembly to be sure. I really dont think the entire assembly needs to be replaced. Especially since it is guided by the sensor, which I believe is the real issue. Any thoughts? They're quoting me $665 btw

How much to just replace the IAC? I would start there.

Ive seen the part for around $130 and Im sure I could replace it myself but I wanted to see if anyone has ever had a simlar issue where they needed the entire assembly to be replaced....I had actually planned to clean it last weekend but it got too humid out and I gave up early. I shouldve finished what I started....

I would just clean it out and replace the IAC.

Update

Okay so I pick up my car today and the service adviser tells me that Its the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) that has failed and that its necessary to replace the entire assembly because the sensor does not come separate. Anyone know if this is true?

Yes. The TPS is part of the TB assembly. You cant buy just the sensor. Your best and cheapest bet is to pick up a used TB.

This is a good site to locate parts
