Question Motor oil?

Hey guys don't know if this has been asked before but, do any of you use certain motor oil.
I ask because I took my car for an oil change and it was run sort of crappy. My bro redid the oil and told me they used the recycled oil they have at the shop and didn't replace the oil filter. I went back to the shop and demanded my money back which they did once I showed them the filter and stuff.
but I wanted to see if any of you know which oil is the best for the car seeing that there allot of brands out there (Valvoline, Quaker state, Exxon motor oil, Amsoil, Castrol, Conoco, Mobil 1, Pennzoil, interstate, Marathon, etc......)see what I mean. I've all ways asked them to use Pennzoil. what do you guys think?
Oh and I took it to a Jiffy Lube and I thought they were the experts.

Another thing what numbers should i use meaning (5w-30, 10w-30, 10w-40). also what's the recommended time to change the oil ever so and so miles or months.......thanks guys.

Mobil 1 is an excellent oil. 5w-20 is recommended. 4.6 Qt. with a new oil filter. Change every 3000 miles with regular oil, 5000 miles with Mobil 1 oil. I've run many cars over 150000 with this routine.

Izzy,
I would recommend using a good quality synthetic like Mobil 1, or Castrol Syntec. You should be using 5/20 viscosity. I put about 12,000 miles per yr on my tls and change the oil every 6 months. Oils still looks good when I change it. If you have the ability to change it yourslef, go to Walmart. They have 5 qt. bottles of Mobil 1 for app. $24.00. Make sure you get a good quality filter.
Good luck.

Maybe 5-20 for the winter months, but 5-30 in the summertime. Purolator Pure One or Mobil 1 oil filters, NOT Acura OEM.

I use Mobil 1 5w20 in with the OEM (filtech) filter in the winter. Change it every 4k

In the summer I use Mobil 1 EP (extended performance) 5w30 and the Mobil 1 EP filter. Changed every 7k.

Oil always looks clean, car runs great.

Synthetic changed before 7500 miles is a waste. I typically let mine run between 10k and 15k.

Mobile 1, Amsoil, and Royal Purple are the best

I use Castrol Syntec Blend 5w-20 w/OEM Honda filter. It is also available thru Wal-Mart & Advanced Auto Parts. Oil always looks clean.

I know that many use and recommend Mobil 1 synthetic. I use whatever the dealer puts in there as I usually just let them do it since I live in a condo and don't really have anywhere to do it myself. I used regular (non-synthetic) in my '94 Accord for 12 yrs/178K miles and never had any issues and I'm sure it will run fine for the person I sold it to for anohter 100K miles.

I've always used Mobile 1 Synthetic oil and change it every six months. With my driving, that's about 8k miles.
Never had any engine problems either!

Thumbs up Research Amsoil!

I don't use anything for my engine or tranny that you can just pick up at your local Wal-mart.

Amsoil 0W30 for me. It can be used for up to 35,000 miles as long as you use their filter too. 100% man-made product with no crude oil....unlike mobil1.

I still change mine after 10,000 miles though. Still looks better than some oils straight out of their new bottles, when I drain mine.

Don't take my opinion....research for yourself!!!!

Each post will have a different opinion. There are some concensus points though
Synthetic>dino
New filter with each change

Variants are interval, type of synthetic, weight of oil

BTW the number represent viscosity
5W-20 is a minimum (5W) nad a maximum (20W) the oil is designed to achieve

Lower=thinner Higher=thicker ex. 85W is bearing grease and 5W20 is designed to be thinner than 10W-40

one mechanic told me NOT to use Synthetic oil b/c the engine has over 100K miles (currently @ 130K) and he said that synthetic will be too thin and will not produce the protection in the summer....he said to use regular 5-20W oil...

Mechanic is wrong. If your motor is in good shape and not leaking any oil there will be nothing wrong with using it.

It doesnt look like my engine leaks any oil...since my oil change I've driven about 2000 miles and the oil level is the same...thus no leaks/...right? lol

but i'll stick with the regular mobil 1 oil....even though my last oil change I used Valvoline max life
