Knock Sensor having issues? CEL, VSA and ! all on

Hey guys,

I have about 110k miles on the car and today all of a sudden the VSA, "!" and CEL light comes on all at once when I hit about 30 to 40 mph. From the searches I did it seems it points to the knock sensor. if I shut the car and start it again, it is just the CEL light now.

I never heard an engine "knock" before I am not sure what sound I am expecting. Is it really noticeable?

I jumped the DTC pins and it came back with "23" which points to P0325 for the knock sensor. I cleared it and repeated the steps in the Helms manual and it came back 4/4 times. Basically reset the PCM, and hold the car in park and the throttle at 3k to 4k rpms. In about 30 to 60 seconds all 3 lights come back on.

I read it may be a rat chewing at the wires. Does this code mean the knock sensor is malfunctioning or I have a problem with knocking?

I took some pictures to try to find the harness "C103" but haven't had any luck. I couldn't find many pictures on the forum either. Does any of these harnesses look like they are it?

Thanks.

go to a parts store and ask for a free code reading- report those back here

from the general look of those pics= I would remove any connectors and clean with CRC electrical contact cleaner,, and inspect each wire for internal damage or wear

knock sensor is not something we hear everyday here,,so its probably something else~

to the parts store!!!!

good, the main problem areas have been addressed--
except, what plugs you installed???
if they were 8 bucks each thats the correct plug,,2 buck specials will wear out fast and make all kinds of problems!!

Now,, any recent work done on the car, drove thru standing puddles of water, got buried in ice flow....

get those codes read for free at parts store and report back please,,
not that we dont trust your method--just want to know what the special machine says-- example: P040
and ask them to do a battery and system test

good!!- my concern was how some places will sell you parts that FIT-- but are in no way the RIGHT PART for the job,,,then wonder why it misfires~

RATS!!!!!!!!!!!! The cable is chewed apart or at least severed some how. It is about an inch away from the harness C103 right by the power steering pulley. I am hoping there is enough slack to just splice it.

Anyone know if there is a enough slack to work with if it was just cut?

I think just removing the power steering pulley will give me the space to work on it. Anything special to note about removing this? I never done it before and wouldnt want to mess something up or not put it back right with the right tension or something.

Thanks in advance.

Got the first part off but not exactly sure how to get below it. I can see the wire at the knock sensor with it completed chewed off. Any tips of DIYs to get to it? I couldn't find anything by searching... any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

you looked at the master diy list? I havnt heard of a diy but do recall thread on rat chewed wires,,,
cut- install connector and extra wire as needed is the best suggestion I can offer

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/new-official-2nd-gen-tl-diy-thread-706083/ the diy list

try a search for `chewed wires` ??

Thanks 01tl4tl

Didnt find much but combined a couple of threads and was able to get a few hints.

Removed the intake manifold like one of the DIYs, then removed the front fuel line or rail... then removed intake manifold runner (i believe that is what is it called) to get to the knock sensor... of the 4 inches, only 1 inch was left.

A couple of bolts was a PITA to get loose but putting it back was easier. I hope I dont have to do it again but i do, then it should only be 3 hours probably.
