Jumping a battery out of the car
Jumping a battery out of the car
This may be a silly question but for some reason I remember seeing my dad do this years and years ago when I was younger (if i remember correctly) but can you jump a battery out of the car? heres the situation I have a car in my drive way with a flat and no way to get to the battery with my jumper cables, could I jump the battery outside the car and then put it back?
no that is not possible. dead battery has to be connected to the cars + & - terminals. how are you going to "jump the battery", when you can't actually jump it? all you would be doing is taking a running car, and connecting the live battery to the dead battery. the act of "jumpstarting" could never take place.
you're best bet is to get a trickle charger, and charge your dead battery that way. some places even let you bring it in to their shop and they'll charge it for you overnight for a minimal fee.
*edit : wait a minute, you have a flat tire? so what? take the other car and drive it up to where your other car is...
what am i not understanding here?*

he cant get the good car to the dead car--access issues
its really bad to jump a dead TL battery anyway- hurts the alternator making it recharege in a way not designed for
remove battery from TL- takes a few minutes
transport to local parts store where they charge it- often for free- and will test to be sure its ok
once back in the car- drive 45 minutes to fully charge batt, and stop by store for a system test- also free

it is possible to charge the dead batt from good cars jumper cables as you are thinking--it wont `jump start` in the normal term--but will get amps in the batt
Seen at racetracks to recharge small battery between sessions
the problem is: dead batt doesnt like a full amount of juice the alt puts out.
thats why battery chargers start slow and ramp up,,but no where near what the car does!
