help with fan

so the last few weeks everytime I turn my car off the fan turns on as if the radiator is over heating, when it really isnt... could this be due to a temperature guage that is stuck or something?
... thanks in advance for your input guys.

Fan switch may be bad. Have you checked your coolant fluid level?

yeah, checked it last week, was very low... re-filled it. Drove back home from college last night, is it normal for temperature guage to fluctuate between 75% back downto 50% and 25% during the 1.5 hour long ride? If so I just havent noticed it the past 3 years i've owned the vehicle, but i'm pretty sure I remember it always staying at about 25% high up on the temperature guage...
On another note when I refilled the coolant last week and ran the engine for a few minutes the reservoir tank was steaming and some fluid leaked out but when I took it to a shop and they ran a pressure test they told me there was no leaks

If the fan cycles on and eventually turns off that is normal but it's definitely not normal for your temp sensor to fluctuate that much.
