Engine Check light
I have a 2000 3.2TL. Have had several instances were the Engine Check Light comes on . The first time I was driving to Fla, and it stayed on for 3 days before going out on its own. Dealer in Fla said there was no trouble as it had gone out, and couldn't check for fault as I had started the car more than 20 times. It comes on now when a sudden busrt of power is applied and usually goes out after a few days, but this time it has stayed on. Local dealer says its an Oxygen sensor problem. Cleaning the sensor is only a partial fix. Has anyone else had this problem? Would appreciate inputs.
Without the actual code, it is difficult to diagnose the problem.
However, you mentioned an oxygen sensor problem. I've had P0135 a few times in the past, and it required replacing the O2 sensor each time. P0135 pertains to the heater circuit malfunction of the primary O2 sensor.
You said that it came on when a sudden burst of power was applied, and at first I thought it might be a misfire code. But if the dealership said that it was an O2 sensor problem, then I would venture to guess that the sensor itself or the heater circuit is dead. Replacement will be necessary, and if it's not covered under warranty, then try not to pay more than 100-150 dollars U.S.
Given the information you've provided, that's all the advice I can offer at this time.
Good luck.
Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Thanks for the advise from "Pure Adreneline". I contacted the dealer & set up for diagnostic . Seems that there is a lot to go wrong with this car. Its a plerasure to drive, but oh! those repair bills.

they will read the codes for free.
at least then the dealer won't BS you about what the problem is.
SideAirbagOff Light
For the past month that "side airbag off" light has been intermittent.
I've read the manual and know about the sensor but I don't put anything on passenger seat anymore and it still comes on/off.
I thought that maybe it was the weather like when its been rainy but its also popped on when it was realllllly hot and not humid.
Then I thought it was the time of day like it comes on moreso in the early mornings versus in the afternoons. Not sure how to pinpoint this.
Any ideas on what could be the culprit????

Engine Check Light
Hello all,
That pesky light went out on its own accord yesterday morning. Have booked a service appointment for this coming Wed. Will take the car in and will attempt to find what causes the problem.
Thanks to all for your comments!!!

Hi all,
I own an 03-TL and for about one year each time i apply sudden power or accelerate really hard my engine check light comes on, sometimes it flashes and goes away and sometimes it stays on, (codes were misfire in cylinder one and five)after numerous trip to the dealer and changing multiples parts, sparkplugs, coils, oxygen sensor, egr valve, entire gas in the gas tank,.... the problem was finaly identified as faulty computer, and acura had many problems especially in California, they even issued a TSB for it, my car fix was to change the whole computer box with one that had a different mapping that came from california.
the sad part in all of this is that acura is keeping very quite about this, they don't want to start changing computer for every body, i personally strugelled with this problem for one year and took the matter to a local newspaper to have my problem fixed and they did.
Now the car drives like a dream, and it really doesn't matter how often i floor it that light does not flash or come on anymore.
i know all about this issue, let me know if you need help.

Hi all,
Took my 2000 3.2TL in for service check re: Engine Check Light. The light went out 2 days before I took the car in, but the SRS light came on, so not a wasted trip. Was told the errors read did not indicate any specific problem with the SRS and was more than likely a glich. They reset the SRS system ( for just under $50.00) and told me to call if I had any more problems. Just as I started the car to drive home, the Engine Check Light came on again. They did the checks and told me the error did not indicate any specific problem and again was a glich (they reset that system, without charge). I told them I didn't like driving the car with a Check Light on. They said I would know if the problem was catastrophic, and it was ok to drive if I didn't notice any change in performance. I questioned the service rep about a possible computer fault, but didn't get a satisfactory answer. Showed him the email posted from moahdriven, was told there is a big difference from the USA & Canadian computers. They said they would look at the problem if & when I had trouble again. Not really much help.

I have a canadian model and had major computer problems, after all, all the canadian Acura's are made in the united states, so i guess your service rep does not know what he is talking about.
