cranks but no start

ok so i was driving my car yesterday to a concert and it seem like it was ok but sometimes the gauges just go crazy. so after i got out of the concert i tried to start my car and it wont start. like i have a 99 so its only 4 gears but when i tried to started the number on the gauge that shows you what gear your in will blink like 5 than 2 than 3 and stuff like that. some of the warning lights on the gauge in dim but the others are lit up like normal. i dont know what could be wrong with my car

from what you said about the gauges sounds like a bad battery and/or alternator.

ive never hear of a crank angle sensor go bad on one of these cars but i have experienced on my car and customers cars that after washing and engine bay water can find its way into the connector and throw this code and shut the engine down while driving but whenever its happened to me everything was fine after clearing the code and never came back.

That sensor would def. cause a no start condition. Any CEL codes? How did they arrive at that diagnosis?

What were the codes.

Also its called a Crank Position Sensor.

When you are trying to start the car do you see the green key in the gauges flashing or lighting up?

the only engine code i got was a iac and something else but it didnt say anything about the crank position sensor. i think it was. but i think its kinda weird how when i try to start it, on the part where it shows wat gear your in when in the sport shifter mode it sometimes blink 5 when i have only 4 gears. that display isnt even suppose to show up unless your in sport shifter

Its not the ignition, how are the lights before you crank it? Kinda odd that some lights are dim and some are not, so it kinda crosses out the alternator.

Does teh Green key Flash or stay solid. Need to find that out. If its not solid while cranking it sounds like a immobilizer issue. If not it very well may be a CKP sensor.

could be a fuel main relay. that can cause a crank no start with out tripping any DTC's. try jumping the relay and starting it.

when you put your key in the car and start, there is a light that looks like a key and it lights up green, that is the light he was talking about.

ok my car runs now it was the crank sensor. but with the gauges going crazy my mechanic said that there might be a short somewhere under the dash and he didnt want me to take the car like that. so i left the car with him for another day. for everything he only charged me 650 including timing belt, water pump, idler, tensioner, and the crank sensor. everything from honda
