1999 tl making weird humming noise from engine bay
hello acurazine! after i bought my tl i got lots of information from this site. thank you all. today i found a problem.. 1999 tl making weird humming noise from engine bay and you can hear this from cabin too. pretty noticeable. it was fine when i left for work this morning(around 10am) all sudden this afternoon (12:15pm) as soon as i started its making this noise since..
have any ideas??
its basic tl with FF1 coilover and custom fog lights. current mileage is 173,810
repairs are...
1. #1 ignition coil replaced (Labor: diagnosis on engine light and misfire) mileage 150,097
2. timing belt done at 110,125 services includes are timing belt, t-belt idler bearing, t-belt tentioner bearing, water pump, cam seals, crank seal, t-belt hydro tentioner, new antifreeze)
3. EGR ports and valve cleaned due to engine light at 81,289
and regular oil changes and stuff
i don't know if these information will help but ill just write it.

That sounds like your alternator. When making that noise its usually time to replace it.

Hey Power6417, to isolate where the noise source is originating from......try opening the hood up, then remove the alternator/ac compressor's drive belt, by loosening the auto-tensioner. Once the belt is off, either the noise will be gone ....or if not, then you'll know that the alternator may not be the culprit, but perhaps the ps pump area ?

When you toggle your headlights on and off does the noise intensify? If so, it is most likely your alternator. This happened to me three weeks ago and went away once I had my alternator replaced.

or go lock to lock on the steering wheel with it in park and see if the pitch changes... if it does; power steering pump. if it doesn't then you can pretty much rule out the power steering pump
