Slow TL

I have a 99 tl I/H/E.....................its a slow turd. Why is it that now that its warmed up in the 80's it feels sluggish. I cant even spin the tires anymore from a stop. I know obviously when its cooler outside the car is more responsive due to the colder air, but now that its hot outside it feels like I lost 20 hp. I dont know, all I know is that yeah my car looks great but the performance will never be there in a 99 TL no matter what I do to it. I like to be all motor with no forced induction running in the mid to low 14's but that will never happen. These cars were meant to drive in luxery not on the track. Unless someone has something else to say to change my mind.

umm you have I/H/E and cant hit 14's? I've driven the 99 and the 4spd doesnt feel much slower than the 5spd

maybe you need to do some maintenance on it?

I can break my BFG G-forces with my stock 00.. and those are decently sticky tires.

Maintanance? I use synthetics on oil, I replaced all motor & tranny mounts, new plugs, all ports on intake manifold and throttle body cleaned, use 93 octane all the time, etc. But one thing I have never done is SEAFOAM. Is it worth it, will it make a difference? Any other suggestions?

Ok, i just added a can of seafoam in my tank. And about 1/3 of a can in the vacuum line. Now there are 3 vacuum lines that I see, two small ones on the firewall side of the intake manifold, and one big on that really sucks on the throttle body. Does it matter which one I use?

Do a search for "Seafoamed the ol' TL". All of your questions will be answered. Search on the main 2nd Gen TL page.

Ok, so I SEAFOAMED my car. I didnt even get a half-a-mile down the road when all of a sudden I see flashing red and blue lights faintly in the smoke trail. He pulls me over as im sitting at a stop idling smoking him and his car out. Im laughing my ass off. He gets on his intercom and yells for me to shut my car off. As he walks up to me he says" what the fcuk is wrong with your car?" So I explained to him what I was doing and why. His response was " I would get rid of your car because your burning up a lot of oil." I told him it wasnt oil and then explained AGAIN in more detail.............he still didnt understand. So he told me that he could write me a $191.00 ticket for making that whole stretch of road non-visable to see with all the smoke. But instead he gave me a warning. So anyways, yeah my car is running better (more responsive from a dead stop. Yeah I can peel out again.) But I got done when the temp. dropped down a little. So I wont really know if it made a difference until tommorrow afternoon when its hot again. So I will keep it posted. But another thing I was thinking about were my plugs. I have platinum NGK's. They were like $3.00 a plug. Should I stick with the original expensive $7-$9 plugs. Or will that not make any noticable difference.

Don't cheap out on the plugs, get the NGK Iridiums. They're about $7 each but they work extremely well for the car.

Why would you do that on a main road?
