Question Rear muffler delete.. ??Good or bad???

I have a 00' TL-P and while I had the rear mufflers off, axle back, noticed how nice the tone was.

-I wanted to get Tsudo axle back but I already have the Sound for free....

????-CAN I simply fabricate a straight pipe in order to replace the stock mufflers or do I have to worrry about BACK pressure and other PROBLEMS???

why is it so bad?

i actually made a thread about this same topic a week or so ago but didnt get much feedback. if you think about it we essentially have a single exhaust from the j pipe back. so whats wrong with just deleting the rears, putting one muffler in place of the midmuffler and keeping the resonator? cars like the 4cyl honda accord have a single exhaust with resonator and single muffler. theyre still pretty quiet. i dont see why it would be so loud that you will get pulled over. i posted a video on my thread of a TL with no rear mufflers. i cant link it now cus im posting from my phone but go check it out. its not that loud.

he's not talking about going single exhaust though, my brother has single exhaust on his AV6 and it sounds great

he's talking about running no mufflers at all. i think i remember Kris showing a vid of it and it sounded like ass

not so bad, just loud, and may not sound the best either, but the weight savings be nice though
let me get someone here that has basically striaght pipe from the engine all the way back on his 02 tl-p (no mufflers at all)

i might have seen that video. not sure if one of these is the same one but here are 3 that i found.

the first one has terrible sound quality so its hard to get an accurate read of what it actually sounds like. it looks like the guy is running no rear mufflers, and possibly replaced the mid muffler with something aftermarket, which is exactly what i want to do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz0V9MPVhkY

this next one is what the OP did, and i think it sounds pretty good. although its probly cus hes in a parking garage. every exhaust sounds better in an enclosed space haha.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIsrd...eature=related

this one looks like the poster is fsttyms1 which is Kris right? it sounds insane. will attract some serious attention. i actually saw a Genesis coupe on campus today that sounded almost exactly like this. sound was glorious.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUjtA...eature=related

basically im gonna put a universal where the mid muffler is but i have no idea which one to choose. there are literally hundreds of options.

and to the OP: post of vid or sound clip if you can. i am very interested in hearing it.

First off--I said axle back delete.. !NOT! straight pipe! i will leave everything else stock...

-I did a sound test with one of the (axle back) mufflers and the car retained its stock engine and exhaust note at "idle". It gave a nice G35 type growl when accelerating but nothing excessive in terms of sound...No louder than any other stock infiniti..!!!
--IS it illegal to take off rears or is it just a concern of sound that (ASSCLOWN was talking about...sound is obviously not an issue!!

NO (actually it might be depending on how restrictive and enforced sound decibel levels are in your area), since you are not effecting the emissions in anyway (you might with less MPG, but you might actually gain with less restriction though)

but from a safety standpoint, it is not the best idea though, much easier for exhaust fumes to enter the cabin, since they come out underneth the car instead of behind it

also make sure it will not come out (exhaust) and melt anything either from being too close to it, or heat up the gastank; etc., etc.

LIKE IS SAID originally: I an going to Fabricate a pipe to match the original position where the mufflers exit and place exhaust tips giving it an OEM, stock, and original Appearance!

i think that is called straight piping

i don't know much about kentucky laws but when i was stationed in virginia, they would pull you over for your exhaust being too loud.

^ then to answer your original question, removing the rear mufflers should not contribute greatly to changes in back pressure. I asked one of my senior mechanical engineering buddies at school today. You shouldnt have to worry about any other problems. I say just take em off and weld in the straight pipe from the mid muffler back. I cant wait to do the same.

Rear delete is no where near as loud as that.. its basically oem with a deeper infiniti type exhaust note from the back.

My car sounds simular to what your talking about.
my car only sounds snappy on high rev's, never while driving.
I still have my stock cat and mid muffler.

I also have all the bolt on's, a bigger TB, and the whole intake all the way to the head is ported.

I've got no mufflers, no cat, no resonators at all. Look up my vids somewhere in the performance section..

Cruising, it's not any louder than most cars, if you get on it's pretty loud, but still really nice.

I honestly, LOVE IT!!!

a little over a year ago my exhaust rusted thru right at the axle-back bolt. i drove it for about a week with 1 muffler on and 1 off and honestly i thought it sounded pretty good (but looked retarded from the rear.) Definitely had the infiniti sound. i imagine getting rid of both the mufflers would be a little bit louder but not much. i havent heard anyone with a deleted resonator in person but from what i've seen on youtube i think the no muffler sound was way better. i say go for it

this was on an '02 with xs headers at the time btw
