swapping a TL is a waste.... you should of just bought the car with the motor you wanted. Get headers/intake/exhaust/pulley/thermoblok spacers/high-flow cat/unichip and you'll be fast.

there was just a thread about this. our car is FWD and you wannt put a RWD motor in it. that is going to cost you more than selling your car and buying a G35 or a firebird.

Ok.

1. There are arguably only 2 other engines you could drop in our engine bay and they are both Honda engines. One is the MDX 3.5 engine is pretty much identical to our 3.2, so there's really no point. And Two, the NSX C32 engine, but I doubt it'd fit without a crap load of modification, so in reality your stuck to only the 3.5 engine if you want it to "bolt on."

2. AWD in theory is possible. People have used CR-V parts to make AWD civics and integras. There is also now the RL-s which have SH AWD so it might be able to use parts from that to make your car AWD.

But it's gonna cost you. I'd say for an AWD mod... with buying the axles from a CR-V or an RL, custom fabricating the drive shafts and all the other parts, relocating/fabricating a new exhast system to go around the drive shaft, doing custom interior work because there isn't enough room under the car for a drive shaft as is right now, getting the CPU reprogrammed to understand an AWD system, possibly having to alter the frame of the car in order to support the new AWD system, doing body work to make it look like it's not an off road truck, and etc, etc (the list goes on forever) you're looking at like $20,000 plus.

And then you wanted a new motor and tranny? Go ask Fsttyms1 or look at his thread on the main page of the 2nd gen forum. He got a Type-S engine and a 6 speed manual into his 2nd gen. I think Fsttyms1 said it cost him like $7000?

So you're looking at $27,000. And that's the lowest number I'm guessing. I'd estimate closer to $35,000 after labor.

Dude. You can buy a STI, an EVO, BMW 330i, a new 07 TL-S... the list goes on and on.

It ain't worth it.

Why dont you trust the engine? Honda builds some of the worlds best most reliable motors on the planet.

Really lets be real here. It will be hard to swap in a diff manufacturer motor. You are far better off getting a different car with the motor you want. It will most likely be alot cheaper as well

I think he means he doesn't trust the transmission. At least I hope so. Our engines are incredible. The trannies however are very weak.

Then sell the car. Swapping the engine and tranny just because you 'don't trust' them (whatever that means) is moronic.

how about the new 3.5 type s motor with the new TL-s transmission. It would requrie alot of work since it is meant fo the electronics of the 3g TL

get a dr. evil tranny then a SC that should cost you about 10-11k and you'll be very happy and much faster than the new tl-s.

I think sawpping for the new 3.5 and six speed in th 07' TL would be too much for too little. But if you were to do the swap that fsttyms1 di and then supercharge I'm sure you would have plenty of power.

i would only do an engine swap if the engine blew after many many miles. and the only one worth the trouble would be a 3.5 probably.
