50HP Gain?

i got a friend who works across the street from a shop that dyno tunes and works on lotus sport cars. i told him to go over and ask how much a dyno would be to see what my TL can pull. the dude tells him that if i purchase a new ECU with a chip (i forget which brand) he can install it and dyno tune my car to get an extra 50HP in relation to my other mods (AEM CAI, Comptech headers, Apexi Catback). am i crazy bc i think hes full of shit? the cost of the ECU and tune would run me around 7-800 bucks but for that much HP I would def drop the dough.

also, if it is true would that be too much for our trannys? i feel like a lot of horsepower will break that fragile 2nd gear. my car got the oil jet kit at 10k and im at 60k with no problems. how much horse can our 3.2's handle before blowing out??

oh yea, the dude tuned this 1,700 lb. lotus to pull 450 hp from the 4 cylinder engine, no supercharger, no turbo.. holy shit!

ive gained over 50 hp to the wheels and it doesnt affect my tranny at all. Thats roughly 125hp to the crank And unfortunately this car isnt a lotus. There is no benfit from a tune unless you get mods and even still the gains are minimal. Ive never seen anyone tune a standalone for these cars because its expensive as shit but if you have random money to spend then I say go for it but I would make him promise that you'd gain at least 25whp from a tune otherwise you get your money back.

There is no way to tune any where near 50hp on the stock motor. There is NO new ECU or Chip for our cars. Take the 800 bucks and put it towards Headers/pulley/Intake.

i got $100 saying that that "chip" wont give u anything.

I would say give it a try, but make sure he will give you full refund if it doesn't get 50whp.

Decided to not even try it. I don't want to spend the money on something that might not work or do damage. I'm going to just stick with the intake, headers and catback. I'll prob get just the dyno to see what I pull.

Prob asked before but anyone guessing what I'm getting at the crank?.. With the AEM CAI, Comptech headers, Apexi WS2 I'm guessing 285ish at 6100.

why guess to whats at the crank. WHP #s are what your looking for and are whats important. If you want to know crank #s add 20-25% to the WHP #s for crank #s

W. T. F.!?!?

Seriously. This thread is almost 2 weeks old, and you're mad now? Get over it.

"He came at me..." ...., but that does not warrant your verbal spewing that started with the above. Two wrongs don't make it right - you ever hear that?

AdamType-S, tone it down. Consider that a warning.

And for the other misc participants: Thanks for fanning the flames. A PM to Kris or I or one of the other mods would've been nice when this spun totally out of control. We see a lot of threads and posts, but not every single one.
