the smell is probably just the packing in side. it should go away. as far as the sound..... thats caused by the 2 resonators between the cat and the y. you can make it louder by removing those. any muffler shop can do that for you. start out by having them remove 1 and if thats not enough have them remove the other.. that is if you want it louder as far as it hanging to low you could try to bend the brackets up a little or have a exhaust shop redo the hangers

When I had my Apexi exhaust installed on my Civic there was a smell like burning. They said it was the packing, but after a few hours of riding around I never smelled it again. Enjoy the mod!

Yeah, sounds like one of the hangers is bent differently which should be an easy fix of the unevenness...
The smell is similar to what it would be for header installs as well...

How about some pics???

Might wanna fudge that tag! We now can find out your address and come steal that lawnchair!

I don't know about the cost of the resonator, but it should be more than $20 or so to fix that hanger...Drive over to Midas or something right now!

Don't worry. The mufflers will get louder and louder as time goes on. This is because more and more fiberglass stuffings inside the mufflers will get burnt away.

some people fix it with plastic ties (if you don't want to take it to the shop)

most shops could fix the hanger and remove one of the resonators for less than 40 bucks. the first time i had it done it cost me 35 bucks and they welded the pipe on. (both resonators removed)

when they did mine the second time i made a cardboard cut out of the bends i wanted and welded it myself it cost me like 20 to do it myself. it wasnt that hard (iv done it to so many of my friends cars over the years) i would think you should be able to get the pipe to extend the mufflers at the same exhaust shop also. what sid is easest to extend them? tip side or front side of muffler?

do you know where i can buy the piping for the exhaust tho?...im not sure where to extend the mufflers from..if i go form tip side..it was be easier bu t will probsbly look ugly...if i go from hte front side i mihgt have to move the brackets..i dont know..i have to see how much play there is on hte hangars...anyone with extended hks want to give me some imput?

oh and there asre bends in the exhaust?..i thought it was relatively straight...that makes welding pipes in even harder if i do it myself

to fix the uneven muffler just use a zip tie. Its not hard to figure out. I know i kina sound like a jerry rig but its worth it.

would removing the resonators have any sound differences on just stack mufflers? how does it sound with 1 resonator and stock mufflers? or no resonators and stock mufflers?

If you took out both resonators..it'd still be quiet since it's a stock exhaust system, but you'd get a deeper tone.

BTW, old post.

2 questions.

1. I bought the comptech mufflers. when installing the muffler to the stock y-pipe i also bought 2 (steel or metal) orings but couldnot get them to fit. Are they necessary?

2. I am also thinking of buying the just released comptech y-pipe that goes from the cat to the mufflers. Its like 450 bucks. Is this ridiculous? The reason is because I leased the car and i like how it is just a bolt on mod and no cutting and welding is involved.

tHANKS.
