Security issues with 3G TL

Unfortunately I had to find out about this issue the hard way.

However, I hope my experience will turn to knowledge to other TL users.

Basically my car got broken into a week ago the guys who did it pryed open my door frame and took the window out, here's the security issue I noticed.

The alarm didn't go off, because apparently the guys who designed Acura thought it might be a good idea to disable the car's security system when someone unlocks the car manually.

Basically I locked the car with my remote, and then proceed to unlock it manually on the inside through my non exsitent window. To find that the security system is then disabled.

Wow....

Mine isn't like that. If you pull the knob from the inside or press the button the alarm goes off. Additionally, if you press the trunk button or start the car the alarm will go off as well.
My alarm is completely stock.

--Maybe you aren't waiting long enough for the alarm to engage before pulling the lock.

the alarm is supposed to go off when you unlock it manually, thats the whole point of an alarm. something was wrong with your car.

Both my TL and Pilot's alarm goes off if it's manually unlocked after the remote lock.

Ah that sucks buddy. Unfortunately our cars are super easy to break into...I have several friends who are tow truck drivers and they all say that the 3G TL only takes like 10 or 15 seconds to break into if you know what you're doing.

Like houses, cars are easy to break into by simply breaking the glass. Locks are to keep out the honest people. Even without breaking the glass, many cars are easy to unlock just by using a slim-jim.

Audible alarms are also worthless unless it goes off in your driveway. Almost everyone ignores them as someone hitting the panic button or manually unlocking their doors.

The only worthwhile alarm is one that has a remote to let you know immediately. Even with that, if you are blocks away from your ride, it could be gone before you get there.

You could also do lo-jack so at least you'll see where it's going.

^ the only problem with lojack is that u will get the car back ... if my car were ever stolen i would just want the insurance check ... i would feel like the car is violated at that point

It def. might be a canada thing but I called my dealership just incase. They confirmed what I've said, the alarm system only goes off if someone was forceably trying to open my door. If someone did it by breaking my glass the alarm system won't go off. I'm driving an 06 btw not sure if that helps.

Thanks for the heads up. Sorry about your car. Now then, I should be installing my Clifford a bit sooner.

I agree, unless it's getting chopped you know it will be abused.
