Im going to get an optima yellow top soon and I want one that will fit without spacers or anything, what group size do you guys have? Seems like group 34 is the common, but does it fit without modification? Thanks

the red has a lid that you flip upside down and snap onto the bottom of the battery. Fits perfect in my 03 tls ... bought from costco.

Yes, you will need to raise the battery a bit.

The difference between the yellow and red top is the yellow is a deep cycle battery so it holds more of a reserve charge. Unless you play your stereo for long periods with the car off then either red or yellow top should work fine for you.

The yellow top holds more reserver power. This would only matter if you are operating accessories when the car is off. While your car is on the alternator is providing power to your accessories not the battery. Alot of people at car shows play stereos and stuff with the car off so having a few yellow tops helps with that. I would only get a yellow top if your planning to play your stereo or power accessories with the car off. Otherwise red top should work great.

The red top would only stop that if your current battery was going dead and causing a huge drain on the alternator. Otherwise the only thing that would help the dimming would be getting a higher output alternator.

Also remember that the red top is better in the cold weather, it has a better CCA

ok, so lets get this straight:

Yellow Top: D34/78
Red Top: D78/34

is that correct? will it fit perfectly without any modifications? will the battery cover fit over it?

So I understand the diffrence between the red and yellow, and we have decided the size batt but I am still at a loss as to which I should get.

I have 1600watt system with 2 12's, and some other minor electrical things like dom's unit, a laptop, cell phone charger, radar ect...

Which battery am I best to get? Right now I drive the car a lot, but in 6 months this may change if I can get another car to run the miles up on.

My OE batt is testing at 447CA, and says its rated at 500? on the little slip it printed from the dealer.. They claim soon I need a new one, but I am going off the below problem...

I dont have light dim problem, but when I turn my radio up high, even with my system off I see the navi screen walk with faint lines so I assume its the batt going.

So what you all think, red or yellowtop? Money is not an issue, they not that much diffrent in price.

redtop is a more powerful battery than the yellow top as far amperage is concerned. The only reason to buy a yellow top is because of its deep cycle capabilities so you can run a powerful stereo for a while when your car is off. If you want to prevent dimming of the headlights try upgrading your grounds. I was running 2 Orion 12" DVC's at 300wrms each and when I changed my grounds my dimming problem was gone.
