Weird thump when starting the car

Whenever I start the car, I get this weird thump. It's right after the starter stops turning, and the engine starts up. It only happens right at the point of starting up, and doesn't occur when I'm driving. Does anyone else have this? I find that the car doesn't start up very smoothly?

anyone?

Could be a bad engine mount.

I have the same problem. Just when its cold. I have an 02 TLS with 70K on it and it has done it since I got the car. I was gonna ask the dealer what it was when I take it back to have them look into my transmission, which seems to have a mind of its own....

Hi there,

Got the same problem also.

If i remember well, only when the motor is cold.
Doesn't do it all the time. Could do it three days in a row.
Now a few days without doing it...

Very strange and i'm sure it is not normal, i suspect something
with the starter...

I will ask for sure on my next visit to the dealer.

If you find something let me know how it turn out.

Pierre

yah but here's the thing, it can't be caused by that because I always leave my A/C off. The system is going, but I have it set to A/C off. I usually run it like this during winter seeing as the A/C is not needed when it's -10 outside. So yah it's probably caused by something else in the car. Not the A/C.

A little off the subject, but when I start my 03 A-Spec and I am pulling off for the first time,I can hear an audible groan and can feel a little feedback in the wheel.I thought it was the power steering at full lock, but it does it with the wheel straight as well.I am wondering if it might be something with the gearbox? Any ideas?

I think we have all concluded that this is simply the ABS doing a self test. If your ABS or VSA ever kicks in at low speeds, you will be able to hear that same noise also.
