Tinting The Gauge Cluster

Tinting The Gauge Cluster
Hi guys, i know this has been mentioned before, but no official thread on it so here i am starting one...
i was thinkin about gettin some tints and doing it myself to try out which shade would be the best before i official get it done through a TINTING professional.... i know OntarioTL will be taking it apart to do my LEds cluster so at that time, i'll probably be doing some tests....
now i want to tint it to the point where u can't see anything until u turn on the car (or the cluster lights are on) .... this way it will give a nice blacked out look.... the cluster looks like CRAP during the day... so might as well hide it.... besides... once the led conversion is done... it will look like the New GEN TL's... (check out ONtario TL's.. HOT HOT HOT)

.......i would say take different samples of tint put to up to the cluster and see how the gauges look.......i wouldn't black them out but some color tint might be nice.......a dark blue tint with a blue led conversion might look good.........but its hard to imagine how this would look.........

only 1 way to find out.. . i'll be doing this tomorrow.... gonna head down to walmart for some tint samples.....
the blue tint is not a bad idea either.... good thinking... this way everything will be in the same tone..... however maybe a dark blue tint ? sincei really don't want to see ANYTHING while the car is off.....

While it sounds nice in theory, I dont think it would work properly.
One your O/D would be too dim to read, and during daylight if you have the LED's turned on it wouldn't take much for the sun to washout the brightness to them, hense you wouldn't see the gauges.
Add colour tint and the gauges wouldn't look as nice (I worked hard to get them 3rd gen style, and now you want to wash it out with a blue tint! ). I guess it is personal preference, but if I want my gauges to look good during the day, I just leave the leds on. They look pretty damn good during day with exception of the sunlight directly on them.

I think this would be very interesting to see. I think it would have to be VERY light tint so you could still see what your doing but overall I would like to see this done I think if done right it could look nice.

Well I do have 2 spare clusters I can test this on. I think I have some tint kicking around that I could try. I have to replace my buddies LCD Odometer tomorrow with a 2000+ model plus the speedo and RPM for the newer font style. If I have a chance I will test with the leds on and off.
