stock suspension

is the stock suspension on the tl-p the same as the one for the tl-s? acura's website wasn't informative on this issue. i want to up my stock 16" wheels to something similar to the stock 17" setup on the tl-s without changing the suspension.

if i did this, would i have the same suspension/wheel/tire setup as the tl-s?

thanks in advance.

The TL-P and TL-S suspension are very similar, but yet a little different.

I'm not 100% sure, but the TL-S springs have a higher rate. About the height, I'm not sure.

If you change from 16" to 17" you will have a very similar look to the TL-S. IMO I would go with 18".

only difference the tls has is the 17's and 1mm thicker rear sway bar. shocks/springs are exactly the same

thanks for your replies.

it seems therefore that acura did not do much to improve the tl-s' handling over the tl-p besides simply beefing up the wheels and adding a thicker sway bar. i wonder if this is sufficient for the added performance of the tl-s.

can anyone with 17's on a tl-p stock suspension comment on whether their ride height/wheel gap is virtually identical to the tl-s?

in japan, ride height is such an important issue 'cuz of parking. many of the parking lots here operate as "car elevators" where your car gets stacked into a large elevator bay. each elevator platform is shaped like a "W". if your car is too low, it won't fit most of the "W" shaped platforms. that blows. the metered parking lots are even stranger. your car sits over a "bump" which elevates a horizontal plate to roughly 45 degrees so you can't drive out unless you feed the meter which lowers the metal plate. driving in tokyo is such a pain in the ass.

I could try to find out, by reading the specs of each car in the service manual. BTW are you from Japan. This will make 2 members from there. Welcome.

02 TL-P VS 02 TL-S
front shocks/springs

different part #s, different prices = different parts (maybe??)

I was under the impression that the TYPE-S had stiffer springs. I'm not 100% sure what Acura means by "Sport Tuned" but I have heard people say the Type-S' ride feels more tight/stiff after driving both. Some even go with the TL-P because they don't like the added stiffness.

Eyeballing the height, they look they same.

Eh? Is this true? I would think it'd be the opposite.

In any case, this is an interesting thread. While looking for lowering springs, I rode in another a-tl member's TL-S with Comptechs. I can't imagine the ride in my TL-P with the same Comptechs would be terribly different, despite the difference in wheel size (16" vs 17"). Or would it? After all, the two cars are nearly identical except in wheel size, rear stabilizer bar, engine output, and silvered dials.

Appointment for springs installation is in three weeks, after I come home from an out-of-town trip! New rubber to follow...

Check your local Acura Dealer, and you'll see what I mean.
(Only front springs have price difference. Rear ones are same even though parts #s are different.)
