Spark Plug Replacement Schedule

Recet oil change at dealer on 2003 Type S with 58K miles, no problems, and was told should get "60K" mile service. Amongst other things it included new spark plugs. However, owner manual states a 105K change as first replac. My inclination is to wait as car runs well. Any comments? Also, how often is it wise to change coolant, brake fluid and trans. fluid?

It all depends on how you drive. I personally changed mine for the 1st time at 88,000. I should have changed them earlier. I tend to drive hard therefore they are more than likely going to go quicker. I noticed a pretty big difference in response and mpg once I changed the spark plugs so its definitely not a bad thing to do early, even at 58K. If you are going to do it, do it yourself, it should take you no more than 45 minutes even if its your first time doing it.

One more thing I don't do any of Acura'a suggested "XX mile services", everything they do is listed in the owners manual and they are all things that you can check yourself. It will save you paying for 2-3 hours of their labor at $98/hr. (Yeah thats what my dealer charges)

Plugs- switch to NGK Iridiums- 7 bucks each awesome!
Coolant- better safe than sorry- change it now
Brake Fluid- switch to Vavoline Synthetic and change every year
No matter how well you think the car runs- it will run better after Seafoam treatment and the above replacements.

Yes on the trans fluid at 60k miles as well
Search for threads on the 3qts X 3 drain and refill method
Buy a 12 qt case of special HONDA trans fluid at Honda- not Acura$$$ price for same stuff
DO NOT let a shop power flush the trans
Total DIY easier than oil change- no filter to deal with- one drain plug!

How many miles do you have right now? I'm thinking about changing them on my car.

Another vote for the NGK Iridiums. Get the IX at $6.99 each. I replaced my stock NGK platinum plugs @ 78k last week. My butt dyno says there's a difference, and I went from ~20mpg to 22mpg on my last tank.

Do the NGK Iridiums last as long as the OEM plugs?

They are good for 100k miles
the OE plugs are supposed to do that
but in reality- well you will see when you look at the old plugs

FYI, Kragen has the NGK Iridiums (ZFR5FIX-11) for $4.99 ea. right now.

What a score!- Good find fuzzynuts- hey, do you know a guy down there goes by schweatyballz?

I already replaced mine and have no need for spares-
well I could keep a track day set for overkill!!!

All others in the Kragen/partsamerica buying zones
beat feet over there
If you have over 50k miles on your TL- you WILL have improvement with these plugs
And YES run a can of seafoam first to maximize clean pistons and valves and injectors with newfound sparking power

disclaimer- no finacial interest or compensation is made for my endorsement of seafoam- it is the SAME product used in the machine the shop charges $99 to do - so you cant go wrong investing in a few cans now and then
Gas is expensive and going higher!

Feel free to correct me. I just stumbled on this thread and thought it was about time for me to change my plugs (after I hit it with Seafoam). When I went lookin', these were the ones that came up.

Anyone else want to chime in?

(plus I don't have the type S)

6.96 isn't bad. Definitely better than paying the dealer $183 installed.

Picked up the plugs today,.. by the way, it's worth mentioning that the 4.99 deal is online only, although you can pay for them online and pick up in the store to avoid shipping charges.

$32.26 for all 6 after tax. Can't beat that.

I picked up 6 NGK IX plugs at Kragen yesterday at $4.99 each. I didn't have to buy online, just printed the web page and showed them at the counter.
