RT Cat + header question

I recently purchased a RT Cat and was wondering if any fellow members that have one have had their CEL illuminate after they installed theirs. I haven't received or installed mine yet, but was curious to find out in advance. If your CEL did come on what did you do to fix the problem.

Secondly I believe my headers are leaking on the rear bank. Reason I say this is their is a small amount of resonance at 2200-2350rpm and when I seafoam the car I see a small amount of smoke coming from the rear bank. I also notice a noxious smell when I first start my car in the morning. The smell goes away after the car is warmed up though. Any idea or solutions to resolve this problem would be appreciated.

You shouldnt get a cel for installing the RT cat. You will need to extend the rear o2 wire though.

As for the possible leak, you need to see if its from the manifold or the Y. I would double check that every thing is tight and that the gasket is ok.

How tight should I be torqueing the bolts on the manifold, downpipe and y-pipe?

another question. Does all air that comes into the cabin get cycled through the cabin filter before it enters the cabin?

no the filter does not see all the air that enters the car
There are openings in the firewall where wires and cables and brake pedal and steering pass thru.
Always retighten hot bolts after a few days and again after 500 miles.
try the kragen.com for torque specs. The size of the bolt should give a basic idea of how tight it will stand

i have xs headers and rt cat and apexi ws2 catback.
everything is tight and running very well...no leaks or smells.
i have had a cel on the front 02 sensor(thats the code) ever since i installed the rt cat.
i replaced the first sensor with a bosch from Advance auto parts.
it lasted long enough to get thru inspection, about 2 weeks,
i have an OEM sensor in my toolbox to install.
maybe OEM is better....i dont know..but i've driving around with the cel for about year.

The RT cat should not throw a CEL. However, if it did it would be for "Cat efficiency beyond or below threshold" which means the cat is much more free flowing than the OE cat and the ECU thinks it's b/c there isn't enough of the cat internals left to do the job properly. All you would need in that case is a defouler and they can be made for $5 or bought for $10.

I have the RT cat and have had no cell warnings. A word to the wise keep your stock cat around just in case you decide to put your car back to stock. They are not cheap to replace
