Get the Clifford or Viper which will nullify your factory alarm and also has a remote starter. Run you around $ 400

To my knowledge there is no ''add on'' remote starter. You need somthing thats going to over-ride the stock alarm. There are a couple of good remote starters on the market. If you check with your local electronics store they might be able to help you choose the best package to match your personal preferance.

I have a 00 TL and a Viper 791 alarm that includes remote start. You should look into upgrading to a better alarm than the factory one.

Hey guy, Listen if you guys are interested. I have an extra Audiovox APS996A that I bought for my dads camry. Its brand new in the Box. I had one of these installed in my Galant for 3 years and had ZERO problems with it, also have a good amount of friends who have in there car and have had no problems with it..hence i bought one for my dad which will be installed tomorrow. So anyways i have an extra one if anyone wants it. Check it out Audiovox APS-996a Two-way security + remote Start I only want $150 + Shipping. Usually places like circuit city, bestbuy charge $100-150 to install.

Why is it that alot of people has told me that having a remote starter ruins your transmission? How is that possible if it is even possible? i can see how in a manual if you leave it in gear and start it up the car will jump but thats all i can think of.

I've seen a couple threads on this topic and people normally ask if there is a way to keep the stock "beep" when you arm/disarm the alarm instead of having the horn sound. Has anyone been able to accomplish that?

It's really up to how you install it. My guy did it so that the factory keyfob will still unlock the doors, but the horn doesn't sound. I use the viper remote for everything though.

yes, there is. Go to a good shop and they can add it on to your factory remote. The way mine is (DEI Addon) I hit unluck 3x and the car starts. I know some peolpe wil say, but your car is now unlocked, etc...i can live with that. i live in a good area and parking at work is secure.

All you have to do is get a new key from Acura, BUT DONT HAVE IT CUT. give it to the shop for the bypass module and they will install the dei unit along with the bypass module.

Yeah but aren't the factory fobs designed to work in short distances? How did they bypass that or did they? I like this idea, I like the OEM fob. But if the distance is too short, then you miss out on some of the benefits of the aftermarket systems.

FYI for the tranny issue question, I've had a remote starter installed on 2 of my cars, my brothers 5 cars, and my other brothers 3 cars (just to name a few) and NONE of them had any problems of that sort. The worst of heard that a remote starter will ruin is the starter (which never happened to any of our cars). But the choke time is adjustable. So for cars that start quickly, you shorten the choke.

Of course where I live, i could NEVER live w/ out a remote starter. Great things.

That is the only downfall. But i have a window office at work that overlooks the parking and my car is parked in my driveway at home so it doesn't bother me Maybe I should take out the ETM and see if the antenna can be extended to the A-pillar of the windshield for better reception/distance.

I've had remote start on my TL for about a year and a half, and my previous car (Ford Explorer) for almost 6 years. I never had any transmission problems due to the remote starter.

I love this idea as I just got an 03 TL and I already miss the remote start I had in my Accord. I refuse to carry two keyfobs though. As to the vehicle unlock question, once you have started the car using 3 unlock commands, can't you simply follow that up with a lock command? Seems to me that you would then have a locked, running car.

I don't think it you can use the keyfob when the car is already on. In anycase i just installed the remote start to activate with three unlock presses and after 30 seconds of the car being on it relocks itself which is a PITA cause it defeats the keyeless entry function, although my car is a little bit cooler when i enter.

If it didnt lock itself- it would only be cool for the casual thief who sees it as a ride down the street-

While you stand there making a Police report and thinking:Man its hot out here!!

Actually with the remote start the key still needs to be in the ignition. When you press the brake and the key is not in the ignition the engine will cut out. So with out pressing the brake you can't shift into drive.

And since the fob probably works at max 100 yards away i would see the thief get in my car i'd pop my trunk and get my golf clubs and beat him down.

My local Acura dealer told me that they have/can piggyback a rem. starter onto the factory alarm. To do it, they said they'd charge about $400. (Woof!)

I did it myself. Funny thing was that I bought my car used and the previous owner installed an alarm, but took the unit out, however left the t-taps in place, so i was able to hook everything up without having to cut into too many wires. Overall now I could probably do it in 30 minutes (it took my 2 days my first time), and it was pretty simple. You have to tap into the 5 main wires under your steering wheel column (remote start module), and cut/tap a few wires near the key cylinder (Bypass Module). It cost me $65 dollars for the remote start/bypass off ebay, and maybe another 10 bucks in tap connectors. Oh also with the bypass module that i got you dont need the extra key. It learns the key signal when you put it in the cylinder.
