I just got a job as a porter at my local Dodge dealership. Funny thing being my dad and grandpa were and are Chevy guys, but o well it should be different. It's kinda cool moving little SRT-4s and RAM SRT-10s, no vipers tho...yet. lol. around the lot and clean'n em. You gotta admit tho. Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep have the style down. Their cars look spectacular. Their known for having alot of tranny issues, but I'm not the guy doin that..lol. Only problem being. I have car salesmen looking at my modded TL and are constantly going Mopar all over me. They love my TL but they want me to trade it in for a Dodge or Chrysler. Its tempting. Especially seeing a nice, gleaming Crossfire (which I've always thought was a cool car), Charger R/Ts and SRT-8s, a few sporty SRT-4s, and a couple Rams with the Viper SRT-10 engines. I wish the SRT-4 wasn't a Neon cuz that BOV from the Turbo is awesome. The one at our dealership is all blacked-out with an upgraded stage 2...i believe. Its just tempting but I love this forum. What should I do? I've been thinking about a new car since about 2 months ago. If I do get a Dodge or Chrysler (I don't want a Jeep), which one do I get?

I would keep the TL, but I've never owned a domestic and don't plan to any time soon. Don't let the salesmen talk you into it, that's their job, they would sell out their own family to make a little money or meet a sales quota, they're not your friend just trying to act like it.

That said, I wouldn't settle for anything less than a SRT-8 Charger, or SRT-10 Ram. I still like Acura styling better. If you do go for it at least be orginal, don't get a 300C and slap 22"s on it like everyone else, I swear I see like 30 of those damn things a day, just a Bentley rip off. I actually saw one in a parking lot right next to a Bentley and they look amlost identical except for the badging and the exhaust molded into the bumper on the Bentley. Plus there has to be some good reason Benz sold off Chrylser.

 

Chrysler crap. Any car on that lot is a downgrade. Sure some of them are faster, but thats about it. Garbage throw away cars IMO

me, i would never spend my own money on american cars.... Jap/Euro where real engineering goes past the initial concept and into the actual constuction to the tangible car.

I just got a pretty good promotion and i was thinking about trading my TL in. After I thought about it I realized it did not make any financial sense since i am still financing it. So in the end I decided to keep it. I will just dress it up with some new wheels or something.

Like 02TLSfan said, the salesmen are just trying to make a quick buck. Trust me, I worked for several dealerships. The majority of sales guys are dicks. I only remember one guy who was pretty cool and treated me with respect. He was an older guy though. Not the cocky young douche bags that are the typical ones you find salivating as you drive into the lot.

 

Only way I'd trade my tl for a dodge is for a srt 10 ram or str8 300.....but I rather keep the Acura, I know someone that bought a 3500 dually and after 10 miles the tranny crapped out on him....not good for a new car......this was in 03-04 mind you. Not too sure how their quality is now

 

Obviously Mercedes buying them didn't help the quality much, or the sales.

 

....dude, dont let them sell you on it. My dad has been in the car buisiness over thirty years and thats just what they do. If you want to get a new ride, get yourself a 07 Type you most likely end up spending just about as much when you consider the trade in. Find out if the owner of the dealer you work at also owns an acura lot. not likely but if so then theres no ? about it. You can get yourself a nice discount and even better car...

 

What year is your TL ? I've owned Dodges in the past , would trade my TL - S for a bucket full of'm .

 

i have an 02 type S. I love it, you need to look into it more. the 2007s are amazing, well any 3g will be.

 

i've been through over 10+ cars dom/imp, and i can say honestly i would never own another besides a japanese brand.i have two acura's now and been through 2 others. I just bought my first new car an 07 tl-s and like the others said any salesguy will be your friend whatever car. An acura tl is class,sport,lux,looks all in one. It may seem nice now cuz your looking at a new ride but in reality even with an srt-10 it get old. At least keep your old feeling with a great car..........

 

yeah i got your guys point about the salesmen being all cocky and crap its just that being in some of those cars some seem pretty nice. I really like the 04 Chrysler Crossfire they have on that lot tho..so idk. Either way I want to get a newer car with less miles. They also have a 02 Mustang GT 35th Anniversary. But then again im more of a chevy guy.

that beats out any japanese car period... old NSX included

and there is the Henessy SRT600 - 600hp... (additional 20k) - blows away srt10 viper, zo6 vette, and every single amg (except for the big dog), m5, m6 and the new porshe (except the gt3 believe it tied it)

sweet, straight line is the bench mark of performance and quailty now a days. hyabusa is probably a better choice then...

but seriously i never understood the purpose of trucks with that kinda power. that is taking physics and slapping it in the face. whats better then a 3500lbs bullet.... a 5000lbs super bullet! if someone wants a performance vehicle why not a car? at least when they crash trying to do physically impossible maneuvers, they will hit a bumper of another car instead of driving thru the windshield or rolling over

stillhere153 - I realize that chysler/dodge/jeep make some sweet cars (300C SRT8, Charger SRT8, Jeep SRT8, and Viper/SRT10; the rest is junk), but I don't think that is what we are talking about replacing the TL with. Henessy does some nice work but that he so expensive. He would end up in some LHS or something terrible like that. Again I say keep the Acura. Just cause you're 17 ninety9 doesnt mean you cant think on your own and have your own options. Stay with the A.

 

Yeah, you guys are right. It was just a thought. It wasn't getn too serious, cuz I drive the TL everyday. I get in, turn on that nice Bose system and just cruise around with ease and don't even need to worry about it getn me from point A to point B. What I plan on doing is waiting for a nice 02-03 TL-S, 6-Speed CL-S, or TSX gets in our lot and I'll look at making a move for it. It was just that the 300C and Crossfire are two nice lookn cars, but what I don't like at all is that with all of the Dodges, Chryslers, and Jeeps is that the visibility is straight awful. The back pillars are so wide and fat and the windows are so small. I guess thats what gives them their nice appearance. Thanks for your help.

Yeah so here's the situation so far..My grandma has been sent to assisted living and hasn't been driving her 2000 Ford Taurus (don't worry the TL will be mine...screw ford), but she hasn't driven it in about 5-6 months. My brother, like I said early, needs a car. It has 17,500 or so miles and is only worth $4,000 or so on edmunds lol...kinda funny. It has almost 100,000 miles less than the TL and is worth about 4-5 grand less. When you close the doors on it they sound like someone is opening a tin can of soup. Anyways, since I'm 17, insurance sucks even though I have a clean driving record. Therefore my dad put my brother as the primary on my TL and me as a secondary driver, since he's 20 and it costs less. Despite the fact that its actually my car and I even paid for it....so...When we get the Taurus we will run with my grandma still as the primary even tho she won't even drive it. When that runs out it's only about $130 somethin dollars more like every 6 or so months...idk exactly but it's somethin ridiculously cheap since its a ford. So that will be my brothers car until I graduate and then depending on how well the TL is for the next year I will probably keep it if its still at least decent, but I will still take a look at the Crossfire and Charger R/T. But thats only if the TL fails miserable, which will never happen, so its a long shot anyways. So I'll more than likely keep the TL and my brother will trade w/e the value of that Taurus is in a year and he will get a Chrysler Pacifica Touring or some kind of midgrade, midsize SUV.

Only Charger Srt-8 or Srt-10 Ram or 300 Srt-8, is what I will trade over my 99 as last options,. Other than that, forget it

EDIT: Let me rephase, as our cars are getting old, of course the maintence will get higher, but for last options when it comes to American cars/trucks, those three would be my option, however I will still get another Acura or move up to the new C class AMG, with v8 Powwaa!!
