Radar Detector in a 99 TL
Radar Detector in a 99 TL
I am looking to get a radar detector for my 99 TL. I am looking for a relatively cheap one (in the under $100 range) yknow just something that works, even if its not top of the line. I have a two part question:
1. Can anyone recommend a good one in the $75-$125 range?
2. I want to have it wired to some power source so that I dont have a wire going into the cigarette lighter and making a mess of the dash. I know it can be done, but I know nothing about it, and was wondering in a nutshell how its done, and can it be done with any radar detector?
Thanks in advance

Pretty much any radar detector can be hardwired, all you really have to do is pull power from the fuse panel on either side of the dash...
As for actual detectors... I have to say first that a sub $100 detector will be a real waste of money... It will not do the job and you will be pissed at yourself down the road.
I cant even think of one for under $100 i would say to get.
However you can pull off the Ewscort 8500 on eBay for $200, which would be great. Next best thing to the Valentine 1. If you can swing it, thats what you should do.

Yes 8500 is much much better then the 7500.
I have an old cobra detector that i have hardwired. I never took it out because it has a compass even tho I have the Passport 8500. The good old cobra does a decent job on the turnpike. The 8500 tho........it scares me..........it goes off like miles before the threat. Sometimes I think it's a false because I don't see the cobra picking it up. Then 5-10 seconds later, the Cobra goes off. Still the cobra is decent enought to protect you if you're only doing like 10 miles over the limit.

in all honesty a radar detector is not something you want to go cheap on. It's like buying a $50 digital camera, it really has no use. Do it right the first time, it will pay for itself in saving your ass.

buy used rocky mountain radar (RMR) DLS-312 or RMR-430 are VERY good radars...they both have lasar scramblers and the 430 has radar scrambler also...maybe aroud the 130-150s shipped...look on ebay.
i myself have a dls 312 and its saved me from a lot of speed traps in south FL.
