Questions....
Hey i have couple questions thanks for your time
1. is 00 tl faster than the 04-06 rsx(non type s) because i was at a light and this rsx tried to race me with intake and exhaust but i beat him.
2. how do i clean out my cat, because i talked to some people and they said thats what slows me down...
3. currently i have 97xxx miles and i believe i am still on the stock spark plugs, my 3k oil change is due in couple hundred miles, would you change them now or like once i reach triple digits.

1. well if you beat him then the tl is faster.
2. You dont clean out the cat as in cleaning it. You have to physically take it off the car and smash out all the innards. It will make your car not pass any emissions testing if you have any. (not to mention it is going to be 50 state illegal so just a heads up)
3. do them now.
3k oilchange.

Before you change the plugs, run a can of seafoam treatment through the vacuum line, one in the oil and one in the gas tank. Drive arond for 30 minutes, then do oil change and plug change.
And gutting the cat will gain you minimal hp. Definitely not worth the effort.

if the cat is partially plugged from whatever,, like low grade gas- a can of seafoam in half tank of gas- do that twice and should clean up whatever is willing to come out
Yes folks- seafoam is not only safe for cats,,, but cleans them too!
change plugs if over 60kmiles on them- use NGK Iridiums IX
follow seafoam diy for manifold vac port at TB method
3k oil changes- thats from the 70s!!!, oil is better now and the cars `oil change reminder` system is set for 7500 miles between changes/resets

they both ran (one currently) straight pipes from the headers.

cali has one of the most strict emission laws in the world, here in ontario they are following suit.

Its ILLEGAL because its an emissions part of the car that is federally mandated to be on cars in all 50 states. Though you will only really get in trouble if your state does emissions testing as you will not pass the sniffer

all depends on driving conditions. The factory manual (the thing that should be in your glovebox) and your "Maintenance required" light say 7500 for intervals. I ran 8k on regular oil and 10-15kon syn. Go to Blackstone labs to get your oil sample test kit. Next oilchange get a sample of the oil and send it in for analysis. it will tell you the condition of your oil and if you have life left in it at that change.

emessions are not a part of our inspection process.
its a very simple 5 minute process which in some cases you dont even have to leave your car with anyone.
this exerpt is why i dont believe its illegal to take the cat off after purchasing...
here is the official rule from Louisiana's Motor Vehicle Inspection Requirements
Exhaust System - No excessive noise, smoke or fumes
Emission Items - A visual inspection must be conducted on the following items:
1980-1983 Passenger cars and light trucks
Catalytic Converter
Air Injection System
PCV Valve
EGR Valve
Choke System
Thermostatic Air Intake System
Check Engine Light is the biggest concern when getting a sticker here.

2. 'Slows you down'? Compared to what? That sounds like a canned answer from someone who doesn't know any better. If it's a concern, switch to a hi-flow cat.
3. Follow others' advice on this thread. SeaFoam and change those plugs! Switch to good synthetic and change twice a year - most folks put 10-15K per year on a car, so that puts you changing oil every 5-7.5K miles.
MegaMod, exactly what types of data do the labs provide about the oil? Is there also a benchmark of new oil for comparison?

then maybe its possible that its mandated on all new vehicles being sold in the every state.

the rule only applies to cars and trucks from 80-83 when doing an inspection ( In Louisiana). no other place in the guidelines does it say all other vehicles must have one, which is why i asked the question initially.

They provide all sorts of stuff from whats in it (metals/fuels parts per millions) to TBN (something you have to ask for to be done when sending the sample in) It will let you know how much life is left in it. You will tell them what type of oil you used etc... and the mileage. I know there are a few scans floating around here.

the lab has new samples of each type oil to compare against your sample, and all the other cars they have tested
try internet search ~
its very clear in the state laws and fed laws--cat and some other items req.
If the vehicle weighs more than 10k pounds then it wont have a cat- its a big truck and has different rules

smog test vary by state, some have none at all while others have a full safety and smog inspection, Ca does it on dyno type roller wheels to test at 25 and 35 mph, some States have just a sniffer tube and static testing
Mostly they look for removed parts,,, as thats against federal smog laws-and the certification standard of the car
most states give your cars first 4-5 years off from testing, as anything wrong would be covered by warranty

CARB approved parts in the usa- are allowed in all states as approved- meaning parts have been tested and found by the Ca inspection board to NOT cause more smog to come from the car- headers, cai etc are part of that group
must have approval stickers applied to car underhood and documents from maker, purchase receipt, handy at inspection just in case~

i dont go to under the table places either, i usually get mine done next door to the DMV...
and im really suprised it says that all vehicles must be test driven... the day im asked to let them joy ride my car around for an inspection is the day i start paying some hole in the wall joint to "give" me one.
as far as the cat removal, it was nothing more then eliminating a faulty part.. not for any gains...

hmmm not sure why they would never do it.

I have never heard of a car owner being fined for emissions tampering, but repair shops periodically get stung. Stung in the literal sense as it's usually a "sting" operation". That aside, it's illegal to remove emission controls even temporarily while you wait for replacements, so your faulty part scheme is still illegal.
eating ice cream in public after 6 p.m is illegal in texas (actual law)
i await the day im arrested or fined for no catylitic converter on my vehicle.
although their may be a law stating its necessary, it will not be enforced on an individual level. which is why my actions are of no concern to the state law, or the inspection stations.
this will be subjective to the individual and the state they live in, i only speak for myself.

stick drivers make mistakes.. auto's dont
14.9 for the RSX and a mid 15's for the TL-P doesnt leave much room for error on the RSX's part
#30
what the hell? mid 15's for tl?? thats wierd i ran 16.5 last year after seafoaming it and changing oil and fill up on half tank of chevron and removed anything i didnt need in trunk besides spare and crap like that
#32
Wow dude you sound like a straight noob! long vtec???wtf? you shouldnt beat a rsx-s because its faster than your car period...unless hes a shitty driver and then maybe.
