you'll start with the engine... then you'll have a ton of other parts to get.. There is a ton of work but you'll get much more HP out of a type-s engine than a stocl TL-p.

I'd love to see ya do it... if all goes well I'd love to see if I could get a type-s engine into the 4 spd trannie...

trade in for a 02 TL-S will save you less trouble, and not too expensive after all

honestly, that answer is pretty worthless (though possibly true) - if you dont have any relevant input...you know, keep your fingers away from the keyboard. haha. if he can get a good engine for $800 it may be worth it actually

800 is just the engine itself, whatelse you need to make it run?

to work best he needs a type S cat converter, exhaust and a heavy duty alternator which are standard on the type-S

its worth a shot... ya know its your money and finally you have the last say in what YOU do. so give it a shot if you think it would work...

jtidwell3: is it just the motor, or can you get access to the trans ect. because i would say why not just go for the whole swap or do an upgrade to the trans. BEST of luck to ya....

lolol I love the Money Pit... Don't think everyone here knows the Movie though.... I shouldn't feel old at 25!!! Should I?

And NSXNEXT, wouldn't most of those compponents come with the " Engine and Assembly" ? I was goin to start mentioning the VSA, etc.. but I then thought they are possibly included in the engine for $800.

If that's the case, and all the components are in the "engine assembly". What else is there to deal with besides the engine bay stuff?

ok heres the deal,,,,my trans is gone right now...so i have to replace it anyways have 135,000 mi. so no warranty. so i thought why not just "overhaul" the whole thing going out there today to see what all is included i think its just the motor. oh yeah the s type trans is 1300$ w same 10k mi. i was mainly wondering if the engines are the same size. like it will fit in the same space under the hood. , if you guys think it will end up costing more than 4 grand then ill just replace trans and sell.....and prob get 05 TL

if you are thinking of doing an engine swap, do the 3.5L MDX engine swap. Several people have done it successfully.

do what??? if you are talking about the 3.5 upgrade...that is not the same thing as a direct swap of the MDX motor.

It seems like you have quite a few options in front of you...your engine is ok right? You just need a new transmission? So why not get a built transmission from that guy in apopka, Fla. and then throw on a turbo? With the TL-P engines, they have a lower compression than the TL-S so you can run higher boost. And with a built tranny you can handle more hp. If you buy that tranny from the junk yard, it will probably go out on you again.

Depending on whether you want to mod your current setup or get the new TL is your new decision. You have to replace the tranny anyways, but from there I would just keep your engine and either trade in or mod what you have... Just my .

Yeh, the upgrade is what I meant. What exactly do they change out when they did the upgrade? I really didn't read into it too much.

well you'll have to take the engine out and put it back in both circumstances... However the 3.5 will include a ton of work to the engine while it's out ( swap manifold, boring out the cylinders, etc... ) You would be smarter to purchase the type-s engine and let the mechanic work on it for half a year, then you'll be able to swap it into the car quickly... it is a very time consuming job and you're car is typically out of commission for a while.

teh only main issue (that no one has attempted in the type-s swap) is the computer.
the engines are teh same engine (type s to tl-p) just a few different internal tweaks. in order to do teh swap you would need the type-s computer (atleast in theory) and prob have to run a few extra wires for the 2nd stage part of the intake. is it possibe? VERY. just no one has attempted it yet.

and for the 3.5 comment, yes that would be a good engine build up if you had a TYPE-S thats where alot of gains can be made. no one has done it to the base engine
