Programming a new (used) key remote?

My recently purchased '03 TL-S only came w/ one remote (#2).

I just recieved a used remote that I found/bought on Ebay, which is a #1, and of course has the four buttons, and looks exactly the same, but after attempting a couple times to program it (according to the instructions in the 3rd gen. section, "garage" thread), it DIDN'T WORK. I'm relieved that at least I didn't erase my old #2 remote's programming, it still works... Anyway, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

The red LED on the remote does light up, so I know the battery is good.

I did, however, notice that the FCC number on the back is different. Does this matter? My old #2 remote's FCC number is: E4EG8D-444H-A. The "new" #1 remote that I got is: OUCG8D-387H-A.

These instructions DO apply to 2nd gen's as well, right? Confused.

Yes, The FCC number must be the same otherwise it will not work on your car.

looks like you got 3rd gen remote and it will not work with your 2nd gen TL car. There are plenty of them on ebay. Try a bit and you'll find one that you need.

remote programming

to program all you do is turn on the ignition and push lock or unlock button and turn off the key, do this four times and the fourth time you do this you will here the door locks work, I then push all buttons to confirm and then turn off the key, remove key and try remote, It should work if correct remote, if you did not hear locks click then it is the wrong remote. I am service advisor at a Acura dealer and I all the time have used car salesmen ask me to program remotes they just found in the drawer and most of the time they don't work cause they are wrong remote, they may look the same but are for different model

I have done a search an not getting a definite answer but for the 99 TL I know the FCC ID is KOBUTAH2T but can you possibly use a key fob with FCC ID: A269ZU108. I am asking because my GF TL came with a remote but I have not had any success programming it using the instruction. It has the FCC ID: A269ZU108.
