Painting engine cover?

Just a quick question. Will a 5oz. rattle can be enough to paint the engine cover and battery cover?

Not really. I used a can and a half of 11oz. If you want try something really cool, use Duplicolor Metalcast. It comes with a base and top coat color of your choice. I used it for mine and it matched my blue AEM CAI almost perfectly. I got it at Autozone, but you can probably find it in alot of places.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Yeah, I masked them off and carefully cut them out with an exacto knife. It wasn't really too bad to do. Just be patient. I just got a blue UR pulley so next I'm taking off the upper pulley and spraying it with metalcast to match also. Great stuff!

Important Question

i repainted my engine cover a while back, (with caliper paint) but the front piece where the "A" 3.2 Vtec is written is still intact because i'm unsure of how to paint it without painting the "A" 3.2 vtec. How's it done?

To paint around the letters you should coat couple layers of vaseline on the letterings and wipe off after you paint it.

Get it done by a body shop. Or if you have an airblower use that. It looks a lot better than spray paint. I did mine 3 times with spray paint and didn't like how it looked so just took it to a body shop for 20 bucks.

so primer it....let it set....and than spray it with the color you want? sounds like a 3hr job or so......would a layer of clear coat enhance the luster of the color or would it jus burn off?

wash the cover with dawn and rinse and dry.
Then take a 3m scuff pad, scuff the th whole thing down. clean it with water. then primer, then paint. clear coat will only work on paint thats designed for clear. (if your using a gloss finish paint dont clear coat it)

IF it sticks nothing. paint that is already a GLOSS finish (to put things easily) already has the clear in it. adding clear to it wont do any thing. clear was designed for 2 part paint (base coat=color, and clear)
