New Laws?

just wondering if there are any new laws that are going to take into effect this coming year, specifically in CA. Is it ok to not have the front lisence plate or not? i just took off the front lisence plate on my mom's TL (luckily the dealer didn't drill holes in the bumper) and she's been on my case about not having a lisence plate in the front. thanks.

i think the front licence plate law is still enforced here in cali. remember all the cameras that catch people running red lights? they need to capture your front licence plate.

nonetheless, taking off my front licence plate was EXACTLY what i did today on my car

Some place in Washington State has a $300 inattentive fine for drivers not paying attention to the road while eating, smoking, talking, or fiddling with the radio.

In Pinecrest (part of Miami) you cant drive and talk on a cell phone. The cops are real a$$holes about it.

I don't know who's collecting this $10 fee, but if they are it's a scam. In MA, if you're issued two plates (and everyone has since 1990), you're required to display two plates, period. The only way you can display one plate is if you have a green series plate (green letters/numbers with white background), and you were only issued one green series plate, and you keep transferring and renewing that same plate.

Not all cops will bother you for it though. There are a *lot* of things you can have legally wrong with your vehicle and most cops won't bother you (unless they want to). Example, do you have some novelty, chain or trinket hanging from your inside rearview mirror? If you do it's considered impeded operation in MA and can get you a $35 fine. Do cops enforce it? Hardly ever. Is it illegal? Yes.

BTW, the fine for not displaying a front plate is $35.

In CA, starting tomorrow (1/1/02), $100 fine will be issued for those that perform distractive behavior while driving, such as eating, applying make up, talking on cell phone, etc.

I wonder if we can use the hands free feature of the cell phone to talk while we drive. Anyone know?

Damn that's BS...I understand its a distraction but on the highway talking on a cell phone doesn't interfere and neither does drinking...

That's what I heard too; wonder if it's still considered a fix-it ticket, though? Heck, my plates still haven't come in yet...
