Does anyone know if it is possible to lock the doors on a TL after you have started the engine? I'd like to be able to go out and start the car in the morning, and lock the doors to keep it secure while it warms up and I go inside, then just use another key to unlock it again to drive.

Is there a way to override the "no lockout with key in ignition" feature?

You mean the doors lock but when you shut the door it unlocks?

 

i'll try it again when i get home but i don't think it did anything when i pushed the power lock switch (door open, key on).

open your door, start the car, try to lock it with the driver door open, the knob will go down and pop right back up. it's an anti-lockout feature

yes. basically, my way around it is to start the car, close the door, and use your OTHER key to lock your already closed door. bada bing.

keep in mind though, this is the ghetto warm up procedure, if someone really wants your car, all they would have to do is break the window and the engine is already started for them, they can just drive off. so i'd be careful as to what neighborhoods you do this in. if you really cared about security, get remote start

by the time the gps is up- seatbelt on, seat heater on,,the car is ready to get moving.
If it will rev to 2000 its good to go
Keep rpm under 3000 until some temp reading (a few blocks driving)

seat heat note:
start on High until butt and back warms to satisfaction, then switch to LOW and leave there.
High will run until temp hits an `over-limit` switch and shuts down- when cools below certain point it switches itself back on

This constant heat contributes to the broken butt seat heat wire --about where a wallet in back pocket would place extra stress on seat~

on LOW it runs until a lower heat limit and shuts off- turns back on when a few degree drop occurs--so it works like a thermostat keeping you toasty not roasted!

01tl4tl - yea i knew that i just wanted to know because winter is approaching, and frost is prevalent on the windshield in the morning. Rather than sit in the car while it defrosts i like to finish getting ready for work. I always like to let the engine oil get flowing and warm and such before putting it in gear anyways - helps engines last longer IMO.

 

My butt seat htr. element burned open where there is a metal rod that holds the seat cover down. That rod presses on the element & stresses it. Also saw burnt in same place in pics of other members seats. For more info & pics: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...hlight=element

 

you have to use the key, once the key is in the ignition, the key fob won't work.

 

makes sense. I you have the key to lock the door, you obviously have a key to unlock it as well, and thus are not locked out.

yep. just use a valet key or go on ebay and get a $10 blank and have dealer cut it for you. they might do it for free. if you are just going to use it as a door key, you won't need it programmed.

 

and tom, call me lazy haha, but i don't like to scrape ice and crap off my car, so i like to let it warm with the defroster on 90 and by the time i'm ready, i'll have clear windows without touching a thing.

i won't be driving my car in the snow though this year so no worries.

 

You can lock all of the doors by pressing the passenger door lock.

 

now why would they do that? That defeats the purpose of the system. The Acura designers have obviously never owned a dog or child that could press down on a door lock button...

 

If you pull the drivers side inside door handle like you are trying to open the door and push the lock button to lock the doors then let go and close the doors it won't unlock them.

 

This is a lockout waiting to happen.

haha, my spare key stays in the house for that reason.

 

This is what I do. I learned this on my '89 Integra waay back.

 

orrr... u can take both keys with you, start the car, close the door and lock it with the other key
