Leather Trim Issues

On the rear passenger side of my car the leather trim has separated from dash? Any Resolutions?

I think this has been fixed before but on the front driver's side door for a CL but im sure its basically the same procedure. In the DIY, you need to remove the door panel. take some glue i believe and apply then clamp it down. I just saw it a month ago or so, so maybe someone will give the link or you can search for it in the CL forums.

I actually just got the car back from the collision center and had some really harsh words with the guys there. They claimed it was a manufacturer defect, and I knew it wasn't in that fashion when I drop the car off for repair. (But I can't prove it) They blame it on the hot sun....i beg to differ. But either way I figured we were getting nowhere fast since they wouldn't honor the repair, I decided to just settle with wear and tear... I figured that since it is not a perfect world....my car isn't perfect either.....so thats the history of the situation. I never realized how much I was obsessed with this car....

However, I would use a lot of padding on the ends of the shower rod so you don't indent the door panel foam. I did this to my 00TL with very good results- the Gorilla glue will expand some when dry, but it can be cracked off using an X-acto knife (just be careful not to cut the door panel).

Any comments or disagreements?

I have the same problem here on the front and rear driver side doors, I just fix mine recently using couple drops of super glue, spring clips and a firm ruler just like DIY link above but don't have to tear the panel apart (Oh boy, I don't know how can he get a bag of 16 spring clips for only $4, I paid $10 at Lowe's)
It holds up very well so far the next day.

I gotta tell you, I am very dissapointed with Acura work quality ... the TLs feel cheap, they feel like they are made in China.
The materials and the quality of labor are cheap and very weak.

I am glad I sold this car, never again will I buy any Acura .... my Infiniti feels like solid craftmenship, quality materials and assembly, and feels far superior.

Probably at Home Depot or Lowes (the ones I used in the past came as part of a toolkit- I don't remember where I got those tools). Just get clamps that are spring loaded that will fit in the ashtray area and press against the vinyl without too much pressure. Just be sure to use lots of padding so you don't dent the vinyl/ foam (actually, if you do this accidentally, the foam will pop itself out over time). Also, don't use too much Gorilla glue as it expands when drying (clamps should be left on for 1 day). Then crack off the excess glue with the Xacto knife, and you should get really good results.

I have to admit that my acura does quite a few large and annoying rattles esp. compared to my 92 camry but if this car was made in china, than you would def. know it.

Btw, have you seen the crash tests on chinese made cars on youtube?

No, never have ... but I have to assume they are very "reliable".

i used "sumo glue" to glue the panels together today. took about 30 minutes of clamping per door panel. didn't eliminate the gap (still a small gap because of the left over glue sticking in there) but it looks much better than before. im satisfied. i agree with 03typeStl that our cars' quality isn't the best but i still love my TL

where is the glue placed? Inside the panel or on the lip of the leather?
