Talking Installed headers today

My buddy and I instelled my headers today in exactly 2 hours. We had no problems except one. We wernt sure wich was the front and rear header (not labled). We assumed that the header with the logo tag welded on was the front but soon we found out that is was wrong. But none the less we still compleated the task in 2 hours. I can deffinatly feel that extra power in the higher RPM's.

How difficult was it to install and what type of tools were needed? Someone told me that an air wrench was needed. Could it be done with one person using socket and box wrenches?

The install can be slightly tricky if you don't know what you are doing. But if you feel comfortable working on cars and are comfortable with a varity of tools the job can be done. If you haven't worked on cars that much I would not try to tackle this job. Installing a CAI sure but this was more complicated than that. For tools that are needed click on the link below there is a writeup from the A-CL.com site. I really don't think that air tools are necessary but are VERY helpfull. Yes, I think that this job can be done with one person but two people helped a lot, especially when conecting the A pipe to the headers.

No probs with the check engine light...not sure about the break in period (I don't think there really is one except checking conections a couple days after.) I got my OBX headers for $380 including shiping through massivemotorsports.com

Re: Installed headers today

I have had my Comptech headers on about two months. Took about 1 1/2 hour to install mine. My friend had installed two sets before so he knew what to expect. Enjoy....

The OBX headers are the same as the Accord V6 headers. They do not make headers specifically for the CL/TL... same as Comptech....

Yeah I used stands on the fronts. But if you have a OEM body kit on the front be carefull pulling it up. Too bad I don't...yet.

Ya, i just installed my headers this morning. I can tell the difference already albiet small. Im not pushing the car too hard, i want to break it in first 200 miles.
In regard to fitment issues, hehe, there were some problems (downpipe needed to be bent a little so it would connect to the front header bank, o ring didnt quite fit in the end of the downpipe, nothin to serious), but i saved >$700 so im happy.

I don't have the body kit either so I guess the jack stands should work then. Did you need to do any machining or did the holes match up well?

I installed my headers yesterday with no major problems. Header holes all lined up well, and I could tell beforehand that would be the case by matching the headers against the gaskets.

Penetrating oil on all the old connections was a help pulling out the old parts. A 90 deg. air ratchet was sweet as well. Having a helper is a definite plus, especially tightening the headers to the A-pipe - one on top & one below. Keep all your connections loose until the end and you shouldn't have any problem pulling things together.

I've got the OEM body kit, and jack stands were not a problem. I used a 2x4 on my floor jack under a solid part of the frame to lift one side, then placed the jack stand under the normal lift point. Repeated this on the other side. I didn't lift the rear at all and had plenty of room. Be sure to chock it, tho.

Good luck to all.

If anybody wants headers installed in the southern fairfield county area of Connecticut, I know a guy who does it for $100. He's done mine, and 2 guys on the CL board. The only problem hes had in the 3 installs is that one of the holes of the front header bank, is too small/not a perfect circle and needs to be shaved a little, but other than that everything is good. Oh and some headers come with 3 Orings, some with only 2. If you get a kit with only two orings, you have to go to an Auto parts place and get one. The Accord EX Oring fits, so thats all you have to ask for. (ask for the accord, bc most places have them in stock.)
