Question I'm thinking about engine mods, how many horses will it add?

I want to put on an AEM cold air intake with the by pass valve on and also i want to put on Comptech Axle Back exhaust. About how many horses will this add to my 99 TL. Any one have it done? Any other recomendations would be great. thanks!

I have the exact same setup on my '00 and I think its only around 5 combined. The exhaust is only really cosmetic and I bet it only adds about 2HP at best. The intake inccreases the air flow nd probably adds about 2-3HP as well. Thats just my feeling after driving with this setup for about a year or so. I had done the intake first then about 2 months later i did the exhaust.

Depends....Type S or TL-P. AEM claims 12 HP gain..they have that dyno also, but this is for Type S.

I have the same setup and I think it only gains around 10 horses. Not much! Really for looks and a little increase in performance.

exhaust systems are only optimized if you do headers back. putting an axle back essentially frees up air-flow from, you got it, axle back! so if the exhaust isn't passing freely from the headers to the cat, opening up the passage from the axle back won't do wonders - maybe 1 or 2 hps at best. CAIs are best mated with headers and cat-back systems. i heard once that, "you can only eat only as much as you can sh*t" - i'm a pretty firm believer in that theory. perhaps suspension mods would be a better place to spend the money? good luck!

I have a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system with the K&N drop in filter for increased air flow...I got about 7hp gain with just this set-up, then I replaced my cat with a test pipe and man what a difference...much more throttle response, increased power at higher rpm, and much louder...I however did not care for the ricey, whining sound it gave my mufflers or the constant smell of gas...so my advice is to get the CAI or some less restrictive air filter, a cat-back exhaust system, and instead of a test pipe, get a high flow cat...this should all yield around 15hp when all tuned and working together, plus the high flow cat is not gonna destroy the environment or leave the smell of gas all the time like with the test pipe...oh and if you can afford it get some headers and then you will have a complete free flowing exhaust system which then would probably develop around 32hp

From: Miami - just one day, I would like to drive without getting cut off!
Got 14HP for $460....

I had Borla ProXS mufflers installed and they're rated at 14HP in the midrange....so I'm told.
