If your rear view mirror no longer dims, read this thread.

If your rear view mirror no longer dims and you are out of warranty, contact Magna Donnelly (the manufacture of the mirror) and they will send you a free rear view mirror. Thank you for whoever it was that contacted them in the first place.

The contact info is Tom.Phee@magnadon.com or Jean.Glover@magnadon.com
The person that reply to me was Jean so maybe she can speed up your mirror shipping.

All I told them is that my rear view mirror no longer dims and that it was maunfacture by Magna Donnelly. She send me a reply email with the following questions about the mirror and I have answered the technical questions for you guys. If you have a 2003 TL with onstar....you are on your own for the technical questions below. Hell I don't even know if Magna Donnelly made those mirror with onstar.

1. Make and Model of your vehicle.

2. What features in addition to autodim does your current mirror have?

3. How many pins are in the back of your mirror?
3 pins

4. How many wires go into the plug for your current mirror?
3 wires

5. What color are the wires?
Black, Grey, White

6. What color is the plug?
Blue plug

7. Your name, address, zip code, email address, and phone number.

8. If possible please email digital pictures of the mirror mounting from a
side view and a picture of the complete mounting device if you have the
mirror off the
vehicle.

Once you recieved the mirror, don't take it to the dealer. They charge 30-60 dollars for this simple stuff. I been hearing that many people that try replacing the mirror think it's a pain in the ass but it is really simple. Don't try to pry it off because you can damage your windshield. Follow the DIY instruction I made below and you should be all set. PM me if you need addition info.

99-03 TL uses the same mirror. Part# 76400-S0K-A01ZA. If you have onstar on your 03 TL. You'll have to remove the glassesholder/maplight to check the wires and plug.

My 04 TL looks like it has the same type of mirror but it seems to have a different Part# 76400-S0K-A01ZB. I'm guessing 04+ TL uses the new EC solid core mirrors instead of the crappy liquid core mirrors in the 99-03 TL.

I'm really hoping my new mirror that Magna Donelly send is the solid core one so I won't ever have to worry about the solvent crap leaking out of the mirror if it becomes damage.

ANYWAYS.........yes the tech questions above and replacement procedures are the same for 99-03 TL w/o onstar. Goodluck guys! PM me additional questions.

The Acura TL has a unique mount for the mirror. I remember some1 trying to get a solid core mirror w/ a compass for our TL but I don't think Magna Donelly has one. Even if the plug fits, you'll have to find another mounting solution. Couldn't hurt to email and ask, they are really helpful. I'm just thankful that I can drive at night and not get blinded by monster trucks and semi.

hey guys,

just wanted to let all of you know that after reading this post about the free replacement mirror, i emailed Jean and she wrote back tellin' me that they will send me a replacement mirror and asked for my address. so, for all of you skeptics, it looks like this company has really good PR. here is her email:

hi;

You can get a replacement mirror. We need your shipping address.
However
we can not ship to a PO Box.

Regards,

Lana Celmer/Jean Glover

Wait..so can I just tell them my mirror "is not dimming anymore" for my 2002 TL-S anymore? Will I be able to get a "replacement?" Most of you guys have a 04..so taht's why I'm wondering. Sorry if this has been answered already (because it looks as though it has been already) but I don't really understand the reply.

Thanks

The replacement mirror was for my 99 TL. My 04 TL is brand new and mirror still work great and hopefully it will work great for many years. Just to remind you people that 04 TL and 99-03 TL have different parts#. I doubt anyone would need to change their mirror on their 04 TL this early and hopefully Acura change the mirrors to the solid core EC mirrors.

When I sent them an email they replied about 2 weeks later saying they would get back to me. They did about a week later and then called me asking for my address. I got my new mirror about a week later.

When I emailed them I was very nice but explained the hazards of having the mirror burst in the car and causing an accident. I requested a new mirror and they were very courteous.

Everyone, if you're having trouble taking off the mirror or don't understand the DIY, please PM me first before you go crazy on the mirror and end up cracking/chipping the windshield. If you feel like you can't use the DIY or still having trouble.........go to the dealer or a windshield replacement shop and spend that 15-60 dollars, it's way better then $500+ to replace the windshield. Again, becareful.

No, you don't need to know the model #, just the year, make, and model.

Do they require you to mail the defective mirror back? Also, so the company is doing this because the mirror is under their warranty or something?

We don't know if these mirrors are updated/improved solid core or just replacement liquid core.

99-03 TL have the liquid core. I'm sure it's still liquid.....no way of really know which we recieved unless we asked them or something. Both the solid core and liquid core look the same on the outside and does the same thing. The big advantage is if you are in an accident or hit the mirror and it cracked, solid core will still function for a certain time and you won't have solvent leak out. Sometimes with liquid core mirrors, if they are defective, it can sweat the solvent out or just leak. Which will eat the plastic in your car.

my 04 TL review mirror looks just like my 99 TL mirror only it has a different parts # from acura, so I'm assuming the new 04+ TL mirrors are solid core technology. Not sure on that either.

Some can email Magna Donnelly and ask..............

No you don't need to mail back the defective mirror. The company is doing it under their quality control policy.

New ones should be solid core by now....I don't think they would send you the same defective replacement mirror. They know there is a prob with the liquid core models. I don't think they use them anymore.

I asked if I could be sent a solid core and they told me "I can send you a replacement mirror but I can only send what you already have. They are making solid core mirrors. I am not sure if yours is one of them or not. " So I'm thinking they can only send liquid-core if you have liquid-core, etc. It doesn't make sense to replace the defective ones with another liquid core that they will eventually have to replace again.

BTW She hasn't replied back after this email, I sent her all the information in a second email, not sure why she hasn't replied yet. Anyone else have this problem or have you guys been getting replies?

Magna Donnelly and Tom Phee are amazing! I wrote Tom without too much hope, he replied that there is a big backlog, but he is forwarding my e-mail to the lady who is in charge. I thought it is one of those answers that really mean "we'll get back to you ... if we feel like that". Two weeks later I found a package in my office (I gave my work address) - with the mirror inside! I love those people!
Word of caution - be VERY careful when you remove the old mirror. I tried to be careful and tried not to use excessive force, but ended up cracking the windshield. Fortunately, it's not that bad - not in the line of sight and mostly covered by the mirror itself (hopefully, cracks won't grow - planning to replace it sometime in spring).

Yes i got a Mirror to...I think this company has good customer service, because other companies will refuse to send things out or they might ask for a fee. here is what she wrote..

Raveen;

We will be happy to send you a new mirror. We need a shipping address.
However we cannot ship to a PO Box.
