I wrote Jean an email asking about the replacement mirrors being solid core or liquid core. This is the reply.

Han;

From what I am told they are solid core. However if you have any problems
just contact us.

Regards,

Lana Celmer/Jean Glover

Thats not what they told me...maybe it was just a misunderstanding. Hopefully a box containing a solid core mirror will show up on my porch soon!

I got my mirror in the mail today. I am trying to remove the old mirror, as specified in the instructions, but it won't budge. Anyone have trouble with this? How did you overcome it?

Guys,

I don't think pushing up that little metal clip does anything. To get my mirror off, I just took a small hammer and tapped downward on the mirror to rattle it off. The mirror basically wedges onto the mounting bracket.

Too bad this policy doesn't apply to our transmissions.

What are the sympthoms of a mirror going bad? I'm on my original mirror with no apparent problems.

Sorry guys, I own a CL and was referred to this forum because I have the same problem:

Do you know if the traits on a 2001 acura cl for the mirror is the same as what was posted for the TL on the first post? (the thing about the 3 pins and such)

01-03 CL uses the same mirror as 99-03 TL so yes you can assume that the pin and wire colors are the same.

Well guys, I finally heard back and I have a mirror in the mail. It could be solid core, but I am not sure this is all that they told me

Allie;

From what I was told the mirror has been fixed and shouldn't leak anymore. I will go ahead and send you one if you have anymore problems please contact us and we can replace it for you.

Regards,

Lana Celmer/Jean Glover

So even if it is liquid core we can still get replacements for our replacements! Now thats awesome customer service

I've been carefully following the instructions/pics, but cracked the windshield anyway (replaced it today). I was struggling with that clip for quite some time and still not sure how the mirror came off - maybe by just brute force... Looking at the replacement mirror, I was trying to figure out what part this clip is engaging, but I couldn't. But there should be some sense in this clip, right? What I was doing wrong?

Alright guys,

I'm just going to recommend everyone take this to a professional to get their mirrors replaced. I don't want you guys cracking the windshield for like a $30 labor charge. I have replaced three mirrors for two TLs and one CL. I don't see why everyone is having so much trouble taking the mirror off. As of now, the DIY has been taken OFFLINE.

Damn Madcat..you got yours hella quick. I think now if you just put your address into the e-mail..they'll ship it out a.s.a.p. instead of calling you for your address. So, in my opinion, I suggest you guys to put it down in the e-mail so there is no time delayed.

as for deleting the DIY.. HZM82, I agree with MikeLee. can you leave the DIY up? Thanks.

I'll let you know when I install it, I'll crack it open. Instead of selling it on ebay, like some jackass probably sell a defective one.

It doesn't matter know, but did you have ANY trouble replacing mirror? First time? I'm relatively "handy" and usually do that kind of job without much problem - not this time. At one point I was even thinking that mirror got glued to the mount somehow (it didn't). BTW, my windshield was three years old, 100% covered by insurance and was done at the place where I work.

I had trouble trying to get it off the first time on my 99 TL until I found the clip. I spend more time playing with the clip then forcing the mirror and it just came off in about 10 mins. Then on my cousin 00 TL, I did the same thing and I got her mirror off in less then a min. My friend 01 CL took a little more time because he has an aftermarket GPS and the antenna was stuck right under the mirror.

I guess enough people wants to see the DIY i'll put it back. BUT just becareful......I wouldn't recommend using a lot of force or hitting it with a hammer and such. I highly recommend just taking it to a dealer or a replacement windshield place.

hzm82 - thanks! Yes, I've seen pictures and I've played with the clip long enough. As I said before, I couldn't figure out what part of the mount this clip engages even when I managed to take the mirror off. I understand that it worked for you very well and I'm embarrassed that I couldn’t do the same Taking it to the dealer for such a seemingly easy task - waste of time and money - not to mention bruised ego .

Thanks

You and I are in the same boat. I too am pretty handy and I struggled with that clip. The reason is that clip does NOT release the mirror. I studied that clip for for quite some time (on both the new mirror, and the old mirror once I got it off) and it appears to have no affect.

Embedded in the windshield is a metal base that the mirror slides onto and "wedges" on. It gets progressively tighter to more you push the mirror onto the base.

Like I said earlier, I just used a small hammer (or mallet) to tap the mirror off the metal base. I used an open-end wrench to lay against the mirror to give me something to tap on since it is hard to actually tap on the mirror itself due to its close proximity to the top of the car.

The DIY is very useful, but I think it is a little off-base regarding the clip. I'd bet big $ that the Acura dealerships are not messing with that clip when they remove the mirror.

How many with the ONStar mirror are having this problem? Mine looks completely different. Is this an issue for my type of mirror? It seems to be working ok, but just wondering if anyone else has this issue related to the ONStar mirror?

Hmmm, that's funny they didn't ask for mine back. And if I recall correctly, most if not all the others weren't required to either. Guess your friend got caught red handed.
