Do your own brakes?

How many of you do your own brake job? I went to PT in Redwood City, CA and they seemed to have some trouble. I ended up going there 5 times to get it checked out and fixed. I did end up with new rotors in the back and new pads after 3 weeks for free under their warrenty but my time is precious and i can't afford to spend 10+ hours at the shop.

so if you do your own brakes:
what brand you use?
how much?
how do you change it?
how easy is it?
do you change rotors too?
where do you get your rotors machined if you need to?
any special considerations?

any help would be awesome.

u need an impact screw driver to take the rotors off , get them machined at autozone , pads are easy but it is a safety issue so if ur not sure let the pros do it

Do it yourself and you'll save $$$$$.

If you have vibration then go and get the rotors replaced/shaved. I recommend replaced since there isn't that much cost difference.

Changing brakes in Acuras is pretty simple, I've done it about 3 times on my Legend (both disc) and they work great, haven't had the need to machine them yet.

All you need is a ratchet and a C clamp. I always use ceramic pads myself

No dud, a wratchet and an extension (a tube or something to use w. wratchet) is MORE than enough...theres only 3nuts plus the break line holding the caliper in place...It takes 5minutes to take each caliper off...plus lifting and taking rims off

Never go to the dealership for this unless you're still under warranty...Autozone, Auto discount, Tire kingdom, Quaquer State...i could keep going on and on...

he was talking about the 2 screws on the rotor to use a impact screw driver (you hit it with a hammer) its the best and safest way to remove the screws with out stripping them.

as for the brakes 2 bolts is all you need to remove the caliper. you dont need to remove any brakelines or brackets that hold them. that and either a large chanel locks or a big C-clamp for the brake piston.

its a EASY job

i'm thinking about replacing my front rotors and pads too. seem to be getting vibration while at speed and i know my rotors are wearing thin from resurfacing. when you guys change your brakes is it safe to just use a jack or do you recommend jack stands?
