i think the difference is that in the 99-00 you can remove the cup holder and in the 01 it's stuck on.

no the newer cupholder has deeper wells so it holds your beverages better. I switched mine, works a ton better, id definitely reccomend it.

The new cupholders are the #$%*. They hold the beverage alot better. Worth the cash.

The 2001 plastic insert cup holder is deeper than 99-00 model.
Its was well worth the money I spent.

Hey, do any of you guys know how deep the 2001 cup holders are? I have a 2000, and I really don't like how shallow the cup holders are, but I don't know if it's the 2000 or 2001 cup holder. Thanks.

99-00 have the crappy shallow cup holds where you can remove one of the buttom pieces, the 01+ cup holds is a one piece and deeper cup holder. I was sick of having my drinks spilling everywhere, so I upgarded. Tim has it for sale in his Accessories section on this website or you can ask the dealer for it. Only modification you need to do to make if fit 99-00 TL is to trim off two little tabs to make it settle in right.

Thanks, guys!! I'll take a look at the filing when I get the new cup holders, and if I have questions, I'll ask you guys.

The 2 plastic tabs can be clipped off with a toenail clipper this is what I did. Others have used small hobby knife its very easy & takes a few seconds.

I can think of an even cheaper mod:

The fog light mod to use fogs while parking lights are on.

Do the cupholders fit snuggly in everyone's 2000TL? I just installed mine, and it seems to be sitting very loosely, and occasionally the cupholder door rubs against the cupholder unit and doesn't open. I clipped the two tabs on the front. Are there others? Thanks.

Mine does. You just have to push it in and after awhile it will stop making the cup holder unit from opening.
