learned the hard way
I highly recommend sticking with Honda coolant. I had an Accord that I filled with Prestone--the whole system filled up with corrosion after about 30K miles.

IMHO the same thing goes with transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid. Honda has gone to a lot of trouble to develop fluids that are compatible with their systems and keep the seals lubricated and corrosion at bay.

I understand your point and that it's better to not take any chances. However, some Honda/Acura products are made by other companies and you can buy direct for better prices.
For instance, Honda/Acura Type 2 coolant is made by Pentosin. Pentosin Pentofrost A3 is the same coolant and it's typically much cheaper.
