car trouble - help needed! URGENT!!

1999 TL, 101K, i'm (i think) the second owner after 91K. i havent had any problems with my car till now. last night i went to start up and the starter just clicked. turned the key again...click. third try and the car turned over and ran fine. thought that was a little strange, but it had no problems for the rest of the night.

i went to work today with no problems starting up. came home to get ready for school and it wouldnt start up. click click click. i tried using the neighbors car to jump, no use. i checked the neg batt cable as suggested by a friend...they all seem fine. fluid levels are high in my battery. after attempting the jump the starter stopped clicking.

i hooked up a battery charger for a couple hours just to rule out any possibility that it's the battery. i tried to take the starter out (seems simple enough) to go have it tested. couldnt get the bottom bolt out that holds it all on. i tried to start it with the assembly loosened and now it clicks. i noticed that when i have the key to "on" my D4 indicator light blinks.

anybody have any suggestions? i'm desperate! i HAVE to have this running no later than tomorrow afternoon, with no means of getting it into a shop.

HELP!

It sounds pretty similar. With that light flashing the chance of it being transmission problems are very high.

Its probably your starter. Had the same issue with my 6th Gen Accord.

haha, just give the starter a couple of love taps... most likely your starter though, just put a new one on, not that expensive or time consuming.

Classic signs of starter failure. Go buy a new one and 15 minutes later your problems will be over.

no start

Has your ignition switch ever been replaced ? '99 TL's had a recall on these. Also try jiggling your key or move the gear selector to neutral, while attempting to start the motor. You can attempt to bypass the ignition circuit by applying power to the starter's solenoid with a jumper. WARNING: Don't try this unless you know what you are doing ! The starter isn't that difficult to remove with the proper tools and common electrical sense of what's involved. It can than be taken for a bench test at your local auto parts store.

yup, sounds like starter. im actually fixing mine this afternoon. what happened on mine, and prbly yours, the wire going from the actual starter to the solenid (i think thats what it is) either rusted or broke. in my case, it rusted to the point where a hard bump on the road severed the connection. happened to me once before, and i thought i fixed it but guess not.
haha, in my case, car wouldnt start for me in the parking lot of a gas station. at 1 in the morning. and not exactly a nice neighborhood either. but ya, you have to take out the 2 big bolts, the bottom one is a bitch sometimes, and then check that wire. goes from the big cylindar to the small cylindar.

sounds like a lazy started. banging it with a mallet should get it going but you should look to save your $ for a new starter soon.

thanks for your help guys. ya it was the starter. i finally got that bottom bolt out, stripped some of the housing in the process. that's why it was so hard....

everything's running fine now, thank goodness. and the D4 went away too....and i hope it never comes back cuz i'm not looking forward to replacing that tranny.
