Brake light problems continue...

I had posted about a month ago that my brake light on my dash occasionaly lights up when the emergency brake is not on. It usually only does it when I had the e-brake on, and it stays on after I release the e-brake. I originally thought that it was my emergency brake sticking or not releasing right, and when I brought it to be looked at by my mechanic, he told me that the e-brake was working fine.

Now, the brake light is coming on intermittently at stoplights when I press the brake pedal and it turns off a couple seconds after I accelerate again. I guessed that it was the brake fluid and I checked the level of the brake fluid and it is well above low. My next guess is that it's an ABS problem, but my ABS light is not the one coming on, only the brake light on the dash. My second guess is that it is a bad warning sensor in the brake fluid container.

I really don't want to have to bring it back to Acura. Thanks guys.

sorry, i'm stumped.....i'd think it was the fluid level, but it seems you already covered that.... sorry.

your brakes work fine though right?....they don't feel weak...?

Well the brakes still work, but they do feel slightly squishy. I'm stumped too...the last two things are the only thing I could think of that it would be since my fluid is very high.

hummm the only thing i could think of is a faulty sensor?
in 1 of 2 places. either the one for the parking brake or the one in the master cyl.

I think it might be the faulty sensor in the parking brake, the brake itself has given me problems before.

Sure thing! I don't think we have a PepBoys here but I know we have an Autozone. Do I just go up to the counter and ask them to read the codes?

There has been like 5 of these threads lately...its no big deal other than the colder temperature is messing with something.

there's nothing really wrong with mine, but i notice that if i really step hard on the brakes, the light comes on.. and goes away after letting go.. explains why it was on and then off after you accelerated at the stop..

Mine does it in summertime also...It's not the cold weather. It comes on so intermittentely when I first start the car, when I stop, when I lightly tap the brakes.

Have you checked to make sure none of the wires on the fluid cap are tangled or pinched?

wow batmite a 6 year old thread revival!!!

when brake lamp light comes on- ck each brake light bulb including the center mount ones
Next ck the brake light activation switch - behind the brake pedal arm
likes to come loose- tighten and fixed!
one thing is brake lights, the other is cruise control disconnect

ck res cap- the sliding sendor in it fails and causes intermittant light as fluid moves,
replace cap and flush brake fluid

the cap has been found to fail on many gen2 since this thread was started
35 bucks for a new cap or 85 for a new brake master cyl and cap aftermarket

I went with all new master cyl and cap to match the all new brake calipers and other upgraded brake parts SS lines etc on my 01
make the brakes as best as I could--those parts do wear out
