blinking CEL at WOT

so something weird happened today. roads were a little wet and rain was drizzling so i thought to myself...."why not have some fun?" VSA off and i stop on it pulling onto a small highway. all the tires break loose and when VTEC enganges the CEL blinks and i notice the engine doesnt want to rev anymore, its stuck at about 5-6K rpms so i let off the gas. so im thinking to myself, hmm... it couldnt be VSA kicking in cause it's turned off. i tried searching and came up with nothing. alot of threads were about misfiring and what not but i dont think it was misfiring any of u acuraziners have experience this prob before? thanks

the ecu is going into limp home/safe mode, to protect the cat, because it is seeing what it thinks is miss firing

which could be due to you spinning your tires, and them gaining traction and loosing traction so fast (could be as each lug of your tire is hitting the pavement) that the ecu is interperting that as misfiring

disagree here fries!-
limp mode is usually limited to 2500 rpm, to get you off the road to safety
in the event of overrev or similar event that may have hurt the engine

What the OP may have done is what you thought- overheat the cat and freak the wheel speed sensors-potential signal of overrev- causing warning light and normal engine rev limiter to cut out engine speed--is my best guess...
perhaps the OP could move the modem closer to the car and rev it in park please?
Does it have any lights now- go get the codes read at a parts store
Stop screwing around in the rain
Traction control only works to 16mph/25kph (at least on my 01) then it trust you to drive the car

reminder to all- dont use cruise control in the wet/rain, it can cause major problems if you hit a slick spot~ and freak the ABS

only other thing i can think of is that it was seeing it in park, cause i know that the revs are limited to 5500 in park

but yeah by the way it seems is that the ecu just freaked out and was having a hissy fit, and yeah it should have the codes stored in the memory, so get them checked ASAP, before they are deleted/lost

ethier way he should not be screwing around in the rain , let alone with one of our glass trannys

lol, its ok guys i got a rebuilt Jasper tranny with 100k warranty plus ive done racing before (auto x, drift, track, drag) and i know how to control a car in the event of sudden understeer, oversteer, sliding, etc. but i mean if no lights are on im not going to bother with it. if it acts up again then ill see. that was my original thought though, that the ecu was like "WOAH!" and was making sure i wasnt gonna overrev the car or lose control. i guess the TL is too high tech for me to play in, good thing i got a SR20DET 240SX the traction control system is the driver ha but thanks guys, i was just making sure the car wasnt screwing up or something, then again its a Honda, what was i thinking?

lol good point. but yeah i have some pretty grippy tires on right now. Yokohama AVID W4's they grip awesome in the rain, decent in the snow, and handle well when dry for a a/s tire.

It happens to me the most when i lose traction and get wheel hop in wet conditions. As long as i dont get wheel hop (which is where i get the variations in axle speeds which is what i believe is what is causing it)i dont get it. Its really nothing you need to worry about.

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-2001-2003-50/6-speed-check-engine-blinking-754735/

and ecu does see it as mis fire

first time it happened to me the check engine didnt go off and dealer told me that is a coilpack and he reset CEL i didnt change coils cuz i have only 75k miles now, with manual tranny is alot easier to lose traction so everytime im heavy on gas and it is wet it happens when i lose traction for a bit longer
