Talking Amsoil Extended Drain Intervals Synth Oil

I have a 2000 tl and it's got about 64k on it... I would love to switch to full synthetic but, I too am afraid of the holes it could create in the seals.

Has anyone had experience w/ this? I know nothing about Acura seals.

I would love to change my oil once or twice a year and run the good stuff. I hear amsoil doesn't break down untill a year.

Remember good oil, needs a good filter! Like mobil one, or Amsoil filters.

Amsoil warrantees their 5w-30 for 25,000 miles (!) or one year whichever comes first. Prior to using Amsoil I used Mobil 1 in my old Prelude, changing it every 15,000 miles. That car has 187,000 miles on it and is still going strong. There is a great article reprinted from Lubes n Greases Magazine on the foolhardiness of U.S.-recommended oil change intervals (3000 miles) vs. Europe (10,000 miles) at syntheticwarehouse.com

so far i put 7500 miles on my amsoil (still golden brown). all i did at 7500 was change the filter. i probally wont go as far as 25k, something more in lines with 10 to 15k.

i usually use upgraded fram filters or OEM ones. as long as you change your oil filter regularly, you'll be fine.

Cool Oil and Filter

I'm going to switch to maybe use an engine flush for $30 then throw in a gallon of Amsoil 0W - 30 Full Synth Motor Oil.

And throw a Hastings LF523 Oil Filter on. The Amsoil tech said to change this oil filter every 12k miles....

So I figure I'll just change the oil and the filter at the same time.

Is this a good idea? every 12k?

Does anyone have experience doing this or should I change my oil filter earlier than the oil?

then onto the best low maintenance air filter : o )

humm..... i use mobile one full synthetic 5w-30 but i still change my oil every 3-4 thousand miles.... i kno some people say that's a waste of money, but i'm not too sure about keeping the same oil in my engine for too long plus going w/o a oil filter change that long.... at how many miles should i change my oil do y'all guys think (using mobile one)? b/c i have to change my oil again in about another 700 miles and i was just curious if i should hold off...

Does anyone know if Amsoil is offered in Canada? I have only heard of Mobil 1.. I must say that this oil change twice a year sounds very tempting..

disgookonfiya-

According to the article in Lubes n Greases Magazine ( a must read - go to syntheticwarehouse.com), one of the side benefits of extended drain intervals (another word for longer oil changes)
is the welcome NON-addition of certain additives i.e. phosphorus.
Phosphorus apparently damages or wears down catalytic converter material. Now I know why the cat on my '89 Prelude lasted for 155,000 miles. (Mobil 1 oil changed every 15,000 miles, filter changed every 4,000 miles.) . To answer your question, Amsoil warrantees their 5w-30 for 25,000 miles or one year as long as you change your filter every six months.
