Question Aftermarket Headunit Installation

I tried searching for this topic the whole morning but i couldn't find any info on this. I have a 02 TL-s w/o Navi and I wanna install an afermarket headunit. Do anyone have a DIY guide to do it? If not, what exactly will i need?

So far i know i'll need:

-the LCD headunit (duh)
-a metra radio install kit 99-7868
-99-02 accord wire harness (where can i get this?)

Besides from the above, are there any other things i'll need or anything that i need to be aware of?

I'll also put a kicker amp & sub, have you guys had trouble passing a 0 gauge or 4 gauge wire through the car, cuz I was in one hell of a rough ride passing a 0 gauge through my Accord! Where do you guys usually pass the wire, through the middle or on the side?

Thanks in advance for the info/help guys!

I would never advise anyone to do this themselves. There is a huge difference between someone that has done it before, and someone that does it for a living.

You should be able to get the harness at the same shop you get the dash kit. Metra Part 70-1721. You can pipe right into the BOSE amp. However your sound would benefit greatly from getting rid of all the BOSE and starting from scratch.

Please take you TL-S to a shop. You do not have the proper tools to take that dash apart without damaging it. The only substitute for a professional install is LUCK.

If you still decide to do it on your own I will help. I will assume that REV-01 might lend a professional hand as well. Let us know man.

I agree with Kris, I actually didnt have the Honda adapter, but following the diagram it wasnt bad.

The hardest part is to install the Metra kit, since you have to pull out the mid console are, probably about an 1 hour if you know what you are doing.

DO becareful, wrong wiring will blow your new headunit

good luck, and enjoy your new unit

Bah... You a professional installer? No offense to any professional installers out there, but I did just that with my last car. They must've broke half the clips in the dash, as the car started rattling like crazy afterwards. I found I could actually lift the center console up about 2 inches :angryfire

Question

To be honest, i did all of the mods on my accord by myself. Installed a 2-way alarm, installed a new headunit and passed the wires to an amp and sub to my trunk. It's not much but i mean if i did it with an accord, i'm assuming it would be kinda similar with the TL-s. I just expecting tighter spaces to pass the wires but besides from that, a honda's a honda right?

quick question: where did you guys pass your wires to the amp? I know the rule of thumb is to pass it through the passenger's side but maybe there's trick to Acuras?

What exactly does the accord wire harness do? Do I have to connect the acura radio wires to the honda harness then connect that to the headunit's wires?

Thanks in advance!

edit: would a 03-04 accord wire harness work? Or do any of you have a part# for the 99-02 wire harness?

avs007, go to a reputable shop and try not save a buck. I do everything myself, but a good shop that everyone goes to will never do a shitty job; their business depends on it.
