Well it's nice to see the TL on the list again this year. Though I do fine the list a bit suspect - I mean a BMW 5 series for 35K - where are they shopping

technically you're right samkws, but realistically who would by a 5 series with 184hp engine?? And it's not cloth it's leatherette - whatever that is. All decked out this car tops out over 50K, not 40, maybe your thinking the 330i. (close to 70K for the M series) It should not have been considered for that price range - let alone be the top pick.

But I do agree on the Thunderbird - what's up with that?

just to clarify, you mean 72k plus charge? so that means i can get the car out of the door at around 78k right?

and btw i think it's still worth it. the fastest sedan in the world, top built quality. comfortable and luxurious imho. and it's not that common on the street.

a fully loaded tls (with navi) + all the mods you can think of (including sc, etc...) would probably be around 50 to 60k. 20k less than that of m5 but still i think it's far from the m5 level

M5 starts at 69,900. Not many options really - can up the stereo, rear shade I think but not much really. Destination charge is around $600. So for a measly 70,500 - you too can drive off in an M5....

Mods are cute and all but your not going to make a car into an M5.

ummm, don't forget about the TTL man, it's gonna be a good 6k on top of the 70k sticker price and it's very true that with the m5 there aren't really any mods you can put in the car that'll make it even better. but for sure i am gonna change the rims. i think the stock m5 rims are not aggressive enough. other than that i have absolutely no complain about the car

btw, does navi come in with the m5 stock? or it's an option?

The 5 series consists of 3 models (525,530,540), technically the 5 series can be included in the 30-40k category because the 525's MSRP is $36,500, with leather and Sport Pkg. it is $40,500.

not reallie...the E55 and C32 are the fastest with 4.9 sec with automatic

M5 is 0.1sec slower:p

brian-my dad did own a 525i way back to the first production of the last gen in 89...with 168hp SOHC engine, not too bad thou...got the perfect balance of power and handling...sweet sound from the engine and willing to rev...
well...but of coz...530i is a more logical choice...

German cars suck for that reason. Base price is reasonable but nobody walks out with a base model so by the time you add in all the options it ends up being 20-30% more than you expected.
