Got a 2011 MDX and have a OEM rack on the top. Trying to determine if I can buy a storage box for the top and still fit into garage's with a 6'10" height limit.

Per what I can find online the car is 68.2 inches tall (5'6'') and the box I want to get is 11 inches tall...so my question is the rack/cross bar under 4 inches tall?

Thanks in advance for your help and thoughts. I haven't made it to REI yet to figure it out.

 

It is hard to get an exact measurement because the rack is in the way; but, roughly:

- 68" MDX height measured from the middle of sunroof (high point around rear of sunroof)
- 70" total height of OEM rack on MDX measured from the top of center of front crossbar
- about 2 1/3" from roof of MDX to top of center of front OEM rack. The crossbars slope slightly from the center to the where it meets the side rails about a little less than 1". I figure you would save about an 1/2" in height depending on how wide the roof box clamps on the crossbars.

My Rocketbox Pro 14 is L 74.00” x W 33.00” x H 16.00” and I only have about 3/4" to 1" of space to enter my 7 foot garage door opening. I think if you include the height of the roof box clamps will give you the 16" of height. Since the clamps go around the crossbars, that drops the overall height down 1-1.5" inches (depending on the box). Plus having the MDX loaded down also might drop you down a bit.
