2002 TL Tranny....

My cousin has a 2002 TL with Auto tranny and it recently started slipping gears. He went to the dealer and they wont replace under warranty. Anyone have a low mileage auto tranny for sell?

They're supposed to replace transaxles to 100,000 miles. I think they added this warranty, or technically extended it to 100,000, just to overcome consumer apprehensions in this area. Maybe check with regional supervisor or manager of dealership.

It's 7yrs 109k miles. As long as you don't have a salvage title you should qualify for a free replacement tranny under warranty. Doesn't matter if your the 10th owner of this car. Call acura client services or go back to the dealer and ask for the regional supervisor or call acura care client services. If your car meets all the above conditions they have to replace the tranny for you!!!

I could be wrong, but I believe the tranny has to fail before they replace it, not just slip. But i could be wrong

register your car by VIN number at www.acura.com owner link
it knows the real warranty on your car- it should say trans OPEN

There you will also fine a list of known failure symptoms
True- it must have obvious failure signs, and if they need to keep it a few days to
reproduce or document they could not find- that helps you later

Did the dealer actually take the car in with a repair order and test it,
or a phone call asking about it resulted in- oh- not warranty!

I called the 800 number that Acura gave and since my car is at 110k they said it's not warranted. I'll have to bring it to the Acura dealer to see if they tell me otherwise.

Remind the dealer of the court case that says acura odometers read 5% more than actual so they will be replacing your trans for free as required~!

Mention that to them and see what happens. Worth a shot and it's in your favor.

Sorry - all bets are off- salvage title = no warranty on anything whatsoever

The dealer will happily sell you a rebuilt replacement trans and install it- complete with 3 year warranty - and that comes in a new design case with better oil passages and all the latest upgrades- very few have had problems with them

Having an 02 trans rebuilt in the original case is leaving yourself open to another failure
after spending 2500-3000 for rebuild

The other choice is call the auto recyclers/junkyard and ask for a trans- they are all on a hotline together and will call other places to find you one

Good Luck!

can you elaborate on what this would feel like, i got a weird shift at 60km/h and 80km/h but i wonder if its just the tranny fluid needing be changed?
