NAVI 4.73 WILL NOT WORK on 05 RL
Hi All,
Over couples week ago i take my 05RL in for service and they gave me an 09 TSX with Navi DVD of 4.73 WHITE Disc. I were able to Image the DVD and Installed onto my 05RL. Installation took with no problem. But after the installation, 05RL will NOT read the DVD Navi. Error reading message popup on Navi Screen. Pretty much my Navi were down for 1 day, untill i weree able to gain access to Navi Hiden Setup screen and FORCE it to download back to my 4.63 Navi DVD. I try with multip DVD+R even went out and bought the Verbatim DVD brand and Navi DVD Rom still can't read it. But since Navi program has been downgrade back to 4.63 it been working just fine for the pass 2 day.
I tho this information would help some folks up here wanting to upgarde their Navi to 4.73 Version.

The OP copied the disc and it didn't work. That means the copy was incomplete in some fashion. There is a tutorial on the site showing the proper way to do this but because this is an illegal activity, I leave it to the OP to find it him/herself.
Otherwise, 4.73 is now officially available for purchase. My order is about to go in!

Navi DVD
For YOUR Info:
Mailer from Acura (19145 Gramercy Place, Torrance, CA 90501-1162) soliciting purchase an "updated navigation DVD for just $149+ shipping/taxes during this special promotional period..."
Appears to apply to 2005-2007RL (and other Acura models). Logging to www.acuranavi.com indicates the Nav version offered is 4.73.
READ the changes section before ordering - maybe your travel area has NOT been updated. If not, why update? (I'm open to comment/response).
Having waited two years (and $185) to obtain v4.64 for 2006 RL update in August, 2008... am not hurried for v4.73 since info updates do not include my driving area (MO/IL).

Has the new version had the Zagat resturaunt info updated? Is this what is meant by the new POI [point of interest] updates?
Has anyone actually installed the new 4.73 disc in a 2005 RL? I have seen so many problems with pervious 'updated' nav discs mentioned on this Board I am concerned.

My guess is that Alpine is policing this version better than previous ones?

I'd consider an upgrade, but since I am on version 4.13b, I don't think I can get there from here without a "bridge" DVD-is that correct, and if so, how do I go about that without having to purchase two DVDs? It sure would be nice if Alpine was willing to loan an interim disk for these types of upgrades-they might sell more upgrade DVDs that way.

I did see one guy saying he had problems burning the image of the 4.73 maybe that's the reason for the delay...
if you find a legit one please let me know! I'll post it as well if I find it

navi 2.73
I will keep an eye out for availability on torrent sites, and when found I will let the group know. previous comments about using the slow burn speed and imgburn must be followed when using the torrents. As mentioned earlier, one cannot update directly to the 4.63 or 4.64, but supposedly the 4.73 will allow direct upgrade to those 05's that have not done any intermediate upgrading.

Hey guys, I'm not an RL owner but thought I'd give some input since my car uses the same white disc. I have tried to unsuccessfully backup a 4.73 disc. I think Alpine has done something to prevent copying. What happens is that when the copied disc is loaded, the Navi does the software update but upon restart, it displays an error about incorrect disc. Frustrating because 4.63 worked without a hitch. I'm familiar with creating ISO's and dvd+r book-typing, Verbatim media, yada yada, tried it all. My theory is that they've implemented whatever they used in the orange 3.x disc (which a lot of people seem to have trouble copying).

this may be obvious so if it is i apologize in advance. With the new 4.73 update it comes with two discs - a software patch disc which needs to be loaded first and then the actual navigation disc. This is only for the 05 RL i'm told. I tried this on Monday at the dealer - 1st without loading the patch (it didn't work) and then 2nd with the patch - (it worked like a charm). Just my two cents. Thanks

Did the RL even come with anything before 4.31? Perhaps earlier models. I need to go back out and check mine again, I seem to have lost the TRAFFIC text on the bottom of the scale readout.
Perhaps a reset is in order or perhaps just a key off/on cycle.
My traffic incidents was still operational. At leas my house is now on this version.

If you do not get traffic flow or incident icons and you did before, try the command Show Traffic Icon. That should also bring the TRAFFIC text back.
Otherwise, it may be an issue with your feed from XM.
4.1x was the first version, I think 4.13--you can track the different versions on the acuranavi site by Alpine.

I have a 2005 RL and have patiently been waiting for the release of the new NAV DVD. I finally got it last Saturday, two disks: one was a software setup disk and the second one was the new data DVD. I followed the instructions exactly, and when the setup disk was about 98% complete I got a "check disk" error message on the NAV display. After multiple attempts to install the update software, I gave up and called Alpine on Monday and said that I thought the setup disk was corrupted and demanded that they overnight me a new disk (I cannot access any functions that use the NAV display screen, which is about 95% of them!).
Got the new disks today (they also sent another data DVD), and I'm still having the same problem. As soon as I start the car, I get the "downloading new software" message, then eventually the "check disk" error. The same thing happens REGARDLESS of what disk I have in the NAV DVD unit. It's like the corrupt update software got loaded into the NAV unit's memory and I can't figure out how to delete it. I even disconnected the battery for several hours, hoping that whatever computer part that was retaining the bad disk image would be erased, but still no joy.
To say that I'm beyond furious over this problem would be putting it mildly! My dealer said yesterday that the issue is between Alpine and me, nothing they could do. But there HAS to be a way to erase that bad software and start from scratch. Anyone have a clue on how to do it?

Where is this "Hidden Setup Screen" and how do I access it? I need to go back to my old 4.13 NAV disk until someone figures out why my 4.73 update failed.

Press and hold "map/guide", "cancel", and "menu" simultaneously for several seconds and you will access the Nav setup screen. From there, you have to select navi version (I forget what the precise name of the menu option is but it's something like that) and the system will give you the option to download whichever version of the software is on the DVD you have installed, in this case your 4.63 so you can downgrade.
