IPOD integration update

IPOD integration update
I was told by my Acura rep yesterday that the IPOD kit would be available for order on 1/3/06. He still did not know pricing or availability.
Anyone else have anymore info. This was one of my buying decisions on the RL.

In any case, there is a way to get the iPod to work with 05s even if the Acura kit does not work.
For the billionth time does anyone know if the 05 RL h/u has an aux input?

TL and TSX forums have the ipod integration installed. It DOES work on the 2005 TL from that post. So, it COULD work on the 2005 RL.
Who is going to try it?

Call your local dealer's parts department.
I would also call the parts dept from this dealer: http://www.curryacura.com/index.htm?bhcp=1
They have always been good to work with.

Curry should be getting the kits in by the end of the week, but don't have them in stock as of yet. They also didn't want to do it on an 05, but claim that the instructions do not say that the kit will NOT work 05s. So I will pick the kit up and head down to another installer to have it hooked up.
More soon.

Canal Audio Ltd (right off the WestSide Highway and Canal for you NYC'ers) will do the install. As soon as I get the kit, I will head down there and let them do thier thing. I don't imagine this to be a difficult process, but if anyone has the instructions for the install on an 06, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hey is there any proceedure I should be aware about for disconnecting the battery? I vaguely remember something about personal codes, I know I will have to re-enter the GPS and XM codes. Anything else?

I just called Acura Client Services and they say it WON'T work with the 2005 RL. The lady's response was "The Acura iPod Link only works with the 2006 RL, TL, and MDX." This has got to be the response they are trained to give.
This gives me hope since we know it has worked successfully with 2005 TLs, even though ACS says it won't.
Has anyone tried to install on an 05 RL yet? If so, PLEASE let us know and post some pics!!!

The scoop.
Bought the iPod kit from Curry, installed the other night in my 2005 RL. Install was a bit tight with all of the electronics packed into the RL. Works great after a little practice. Sound is great!!! Does not display anything on screen but "Extension", volumn setting and sound. The HUD shows CD-C and Disc (mode of operation) and Track #.

That is great that this works with the 2005 RL. Looks like I have found my next two purchases, the iPod kit and a new Nano. How hard with the kit to install? Did you have to remove the radio or parts of the dash? Does it at least come with instructions?
Thanks,
Kris
Thanks,
Kris

In order to post a picture in your posts, you need to follow these three easy steps:
1) Resize your photo and save it as a JPG.
- If your picture is too big (ie larger than 640x480 pixels) it will take too long for everyone to download and it won't fit on most people's screens.
- If you don't already have photo editing software, there's an excellent freeware utility called Easy Thumbnails that couldn't be any easier to use.
2) Host the photo on a webserver.
- If your internet service provider doesn't include web space, use Imageshack
http://www.imageshack.us/
.
There's no registration required and it's ridiculously easy.
3) Link to the photo in your post.
- You can either use the insert image button in the Post New Thread window or you can use IMG tags in your post like this (without the spaces):
HTML Code:
[i m g ] http:// www . your-picture-address.com/your-picture-name.jpg [/img]
That's it!

So this is a full on ipod kit and not just some kit to use any mp3 player? I ask because most people apparently think the ipod is the only mp3 player out there and thus refer to "ipod compatible" when they really mean mp3 player compatible, etc. and it pisses me off to no end.
I wish the RL system had an aux input so those of us who feel the ipod is a piece of crap and chose to by less hyped and better performing mp3 players could use them in our car without having to use a fm transmitter which absed on my personal experience don't work too well in this car.

rlwva - thanks for the great writeup. Where does the interface cable come from - under the dash, inside the console, or other?
Also, how diffcult is it to remove and reinstall the necessary interior components on a scale of 1 - 10?

The unit mounts on a pipe above the glove box and the iPod cable gets routed through a hole that you drill on top of the glove box. Everthing else goes behind the stereo.

Feel like helping a fellow out with the install Sunday I'm in Manhattan, but can make it up to Westchester no problemo.
Lemme know.

I'm curious. If this integration kit works in the 2005 RL, why does company line refute this? Since Acura refutes this, does this mean they will not install it? Does this void any of the warranties since this integration does not OFFICIALLY work on the 2005?
Other than that, thanks to RLWVA for the info...this makes me happy. I'm not sure if I'm willing to tackle the installation myself. Its great to hear that the steering wheel controls work...sure beats fiddling with the iPod while driving 80 mph.

I imagined that this kit would allow you to browse through an ipod's contents similar to an mp3 disc, not merely say "extension" and enable skip with steering wheel controls. Does it enable browsing on the nav screen of an '06 RL? And if so, perhaps since the kit has limited functionality in an '05, it is not recommended for '05 vehicles.
