F-021: Climate control bulbs changed.

Last night, I found the time to finally change these out. What a PITA for just bulb changes!
For the most part, I followed Acura's doc for installing Ipod...
http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/AI/BII31183.pdf

Also, a big thanks to 470hpGS400 for his info in this thread...
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-90/f-021-diy-climate-control-bulb-replacement-713113/

I used the bulbs from Radio Shack for all 5 climate control lights.
When I get more time (prob next week sometime), I'll post up some instructions and pictures, but for now, here's the lights after the install. I'm posting this to show that the bulbs from RS and OEM seem to match pretty well (at least that I can tell in my car).

Thanks.

Only time will tell. According to Radio Shack's website, these bulbs average life is 10,000 hours.

Was thinking about that before my change, but didn't know how well they will match the rest of OEM lights and how well it behaves for dimming. Also, the wire leads needs to be flexible to wrap around the housing for contact.

^definitely thought about it. I can change the bulbs for a fraction of that cost, and realistically, I'm one of those people who hits auto and lets the car do the thinking if I don't have the windows open. For me, gaining quick access to fan speed control doesn't really benefit me.

Since I have the whole center open, how many bulbs are in the radio area? Parts diagrams weren't clear on that part...

Just buy 9-12 of them. That should cover it.

Good news/bad news. Good news, I was able to get to this project last night. The bad news is the radio bulbs all seem to be soldered onto a big board that sits in front of the CD changer. That explains why there are no bulbs on any parts diagrams. I'm guessing Honda used better bulbs there which is why there seems to be no reported issues there. So for future reference to anyone else reading this: there are 5 climate control bulbs, and the bulbs illuminating the radio area are soldered to board... I also have an extra 5 Honda bulbs if anyone wants them....

Can I get your 5 honda bulbs? I plan to change mine soon. It's annoying since I cannot see the button at night. Any tips for soldering?

quick note, if you replace the climate control bulbs consider replace the bulbs for the hazard switch or you WILL have to dig in again.

So I just bought these. They works flawlessly and the color is so spot on you couldn't tell any difference. We don't have a RadioShack around me so I tried these.

Interesting. How did you deal with the terminals being so long? I'm assuming you just cut it to size?

I never cut them. What i did was keep wrapping the terminals in the same spot, and used a VERY small flat head to push the 'extra' into the little groove, then put them back on the circuit board, screw them in. You could prob cut the terminals shorter but i didnt see any reason to do that. I can try and take pictures if my explanation doesnt make any sense - sometimes that happens lol
